the edge of winter

Dec 14, 2021 20:37

wayward leaves
settle themselves along the road
the half-full moon
climbing into place
touches the open sky
between the trees

shadows cross the road
long branches on the black ground
winter seeps in
like water
through cracks
in thick mud

cold, snow, wolf, worm
the moons of winter
wait impatiently
as the last of the leaves fall

poetry winter
