I knew nothing about love, she knew everything.
I sat down beside her on the front porch swing,
Wondered what the coming night would bring.
It wasn’t that he’d never done something like this before. He was pushing eight hundred and his granddaughter had to come from somewhere after all.
The problem was…this was a brand new body…well not brand new but it was young and seemed to have a problem with this sort of thing. Ohh he could flirt, he was rather good at that even if he did say so himself. But it was when it hinted at going further than that. It was like living in the body of a fifteen year old boy at times.
The hand suddenly on his shoulder startled him and his gaze turned to the fiery red-head beside him, a quiet smile on her face. “We don’t have to do this if you’re not ready Thete.”
“But I want to.” The Doctor’s hand reached up and covered the woman’s own before bring it around and tenderly kissing the backs of her knuckles.
And then she smiled and we talked for a while and we walked for a mile to the sea.
We sat on the sand and the boy took her hand but I watched the sunrise as a man.
Her face brightened and the Doctor found himself kissing the woman, attempting to convey the words that would not form in the one simple action. His hand teased at the hem of her shirt before he pulled it up and over her head.
There was no denying he was nervous, it had been more than a lifetime, and with this incarnation’s supposed liking of paper bags at even the thought of something like this he was rather surprised they’d come this far.
She must have seen the urge to run because she just whispered, reaching up as much as possible in an attempt to approach his ear, “there’s no need to rush. We’ve got all night.”
He swallowed and a grateful look in his eyes. “I love you,” his smile grew wider and he pulled her shirt over her head.
Ten years have gone by since I looked in her eyes but the memory lingers.
I go back in my mind to the very first time and the touch of her fingers.
Timelords knew the concept of forever was never one to throw around lightly. Something always happened. Death, loss of friendship, separation or even just a parting of ways always put a dagger in the works.
He would always say he’ll never stop loving her, never stop loving them all and though he would have loved forever, he wouldn’t trade the time they had for anything. She taught him that it was alright to love wholeheartedly, love everyone and everything and so he did.
But most of all he still loved her.
