I stumbled across something interesting today: a list of phobias, courtesy of
EverydayHealth.com. We’ve all heard of common phobias, such as Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) and Claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), but check out these
less common phobias…
Ailurophobia: Fear of cats
Androphobia: Fear of men
Gynephobia: Fear of women
Anthropophobia: Fear of human companionship
Entomophobia: Fear of insects
Ereuthophobia: Fear of blushing
Gamophobia: Fear of marriage. (Now I’ve heard of commitment issues, but actual fear of marriage? Whoa.)
Gephyrophobia: Fear of crossing a bridge. (Guess those people don’t travel very far.)
Gymnophobia: Fear of seeing a naked person
Hedonophobia: Fear of pleasure
Hypengyophobia: Fear of responsibility
Hypnophobia: Fear of sleep
Ichthyophobia: Fear of fish
Mysophobia: Fear of dirt
Nostophobia: Fear of going home. (Then where are you gonna go?)
Nyctophobia: Fear of night or darkness
Pediophobia: Fear of children or dolls
Psychrophobia: Fear of the cold
Scopophobia: Fear of being stared at
Spectrophobia: Fear of mirrors
Tocophobia: Fear of childbirth
Theophobia: Fear of God
Triskaidekaphobia: Fear of the number thirteen
Zoophobia: Fear of animals
And even… Phobophobia: Fear of phobias!
I’ve concluded that we, as humans, are strange beings, without a doubt.
It hailed today, for about ninety seconds. Then it stopped. I'm not sure what to make of that.
