MEDICINE
Ambulatory
Working with the Rheumatologist was fun because of the procedures, the patient population was filled with autoimmune pathology but also a lot of f/u OA and some med seeking pts.
Working with the Internist was more fun, but only because of the doctor I was working with. I'm not sure if I would enjoy out-pt medicine as a career; I'm not really attracted to long-term f/u for HTN, DM, etc, or doing yearly physical exams and the like.
Inpatient Cardiology
So far I am really enjoying working with this team; my resident is very smart/intellectual and so are the attendings, which makes for a lot of learning possibilities. I think I could enjoy doing cardiology, especially with the instant gratification of patient improvement s/p diuresis, BiV ICD placement, stenting, and CABG. Maybe interventional cardiology would be a good fit for me? I don't know if I will want to suffer through a medicine residency to get to cards though. And I'm really not a fan of rounding, then checking labs, then rounding, then morning report, then rounding, then f/u on orders, then noon conference, then rounding, then sign-out...it's a lil annoying unless the attending is really cool, and even then it's still sorta annoying.
(If you're wondering what this is, I decided to revitalize my journal with thoughts about the various rotations I'm on this year, so I can have something to go back & read when I'm trying to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life. And in like 6 months, these first rotations will be distant memories and I won't be able to really remember if I loved it or hated it. So there ya go.)
