okay, so my english teacher gave us the assignment to find a word in a dictionary, define it, and write a paragraph on it. this is mine. i really want to know how everyone feels on it, the paper itself, the topic, whatever.
As senior year slowly moves ahead, we find ourselves amidst many new and frightening thoughts: where to apply to school, what we want to do after highschool, who we will miss once we are away. But one thing that comes to mind seems to cast the rest in shadows- that most of us will be gone from our homes. Yes, a home is defined as the place where one lives and resides. Yet the changes that are coming face is with an undeniable reality; that our dorm rooms in college will never be our home, the place we grew up, our natural and comfortable environment. In the movie Garden State, Zach Braff says, “You know that point in your life when you realize that the house you grew up in isn’t really you’re home anymore? That idea oh home is gone. Maybe that’s all a family really is: a group of people who miss the same imaginary place.” That point is now, as we come to realize that the location we will spend the next part of our lives is not our true household. That no matter where we live, our home will always be the place we want to be on the holidays, the place where we can see the ones we love, the place we where we return to so we can be a part of a family again.
