I had a horrible Vietnamese church gig yesterday in Santa Ana. I'm used to people, even gig people, being sorta sympathetic to the rigors of playing an instrument for an extended period of time. These guys however, were not even worried. They had us in full tuxedo and concert black, because they wanted to video tape our recording session. We weren't performing mind you, they just wanted us to look nice, it was brutal. I was there for over 9 hours, and played for a solid 8+. It was just tune after tune of poorly arranged religious folk songs (i guess). It reminded me a lot of
mostlydifferent's hatred for bad finale jobs, because there were some real doosies in those parts. Smashed staffs, dynamics on top or none at all, weirdly placed notes that made rhythms look funky, and the divisi were all up on eachother's business.
For dinner they fed us a fucked up croissant sandwich with shredded crappy chicken and celery. They also tried to feed us rotten pork i think...Oh well, at least now I know never to do that gig for that pay again, it really wasn't worth the money.
