hell of a week

This has been a really ridiculous week. University Quintet last night, (Nielsen, Haydn, Caliendo) and then 4 performances of Candide this weekend. I'll be onstage for it, the sailor on a boat. I might have mentioned this before but maybe not. The scene goes like this:

Candide, Cunegunde, and a crazy old grandmother are talking about how hard their lives have been, and Cunegunde, and the grandmother tell each other that they have had the hardest life. The grandmother's story is so terribly sad she needs dramatic clarinet music to accurately describe it. So I play a little tune for her, because she orders me to. Then she says something shocking about being stripped stark naked and one of her butt cheeks was eaten off by cannibles, and I say, "Stark Naked!?" and she orders me to continue playing. I modulate to AM and continue. Then she says something about being mounted and I stop playing in a moment of shock (I'm gonna squeak i hope.) Then she talks about how someone was trying to rape her once, but at the last minute he says, "how terrible at this moment to be..... a eunuch." then they chase each other around or something.

The point is I have to be 30 feet up on top of this box car thing, and its very wobbly. It really threw me off the first time, carrying my clarinet up the latter and all. I'm gonna pre-place my spare E11 up on the boxcar at the beginning of the show, then I'll be ready when i go to play for my scene. Performances are this weekend Fri, Sat and Sun.
