[ Character's Age ] : Mid-forties; although he appears in his early to mid twenties
[ Series ] : Trinity Blood
[ Canon Point ] : Right before the accident that kills him.
[ History ] :
Created as one of four advanced clones for the UNASF, Cain was designed to be the pinnacle of what science could achieve. 'Born' in 2088 along with his twin, Abel - who was actually created to be used as spare parts should Cain ever need them - he embarked on a hard life.
The scientists pushed their precious clones to work hard, they had to become great leaders and stronger than all the others if they were to survive the harsh conditions of colonising Mars. They were treated as an inferior species, not quite human, and as such they were often just utilised as tools of the country's government they 'belonged' to. Cain was created in the Germanic Kingdom (what would be known as Germany); Abel in Albion (England); Lilith in India and Seth in Canada.
He could easily have become embittered during their childhood, much as Abel did, but he grew into a gentle boy who always had a smile for everyone. Well-loved by the colonists and his family alike, he was trusted as the leader of the colony, despite the fact that Abel rose to a the higher rank of Commander aboard the Ark, as opposed to Cain as a Major.
At some point during their time on the colony, there was an attempt on Abel's life, which left him stranded on the surface of Mars; Lilith saved him and together they discovered an alien technology which helped create the Ark - now inoperational and referred to as the "vampire moon" in canon. Two strains of nanoscopic machines were also discovered that day - a strain called Bacillus and one called Crusnik. They didn't truly understand Crusnik, and it proved resistant to tests and difficult to work with, but the bacillus easily took to the colonists injected with it, giving them a heightened strength, longer life and a host of other skills - these later became known as the Methuselah, or vampires.
It seemed all would have gone on as normal for the rest of their (prolonged) lives, but Cain was killed in an accident... things went downhill rapidly from there.
[ Personality ] :
Cain is quite a complex character. On the surface, he appears nothing more than a loveable dork with a bad sense of direction and an innate clumsiness. However, this hides a shrewd intelligence and a highly trained military weapon. As the eldest of the 'proper' clones - Lilith being a prototype for the remaining three - he had a lot resting on his shoulders. He needed to be fast, strong, intelligent, decisive, and a strong leader; what the scientists got was a little different than they expected.
He was all these things, but he displayed a desire for pacifism and gentleness which stymied a lot of his instructors. Where his brother was filled with hate for being used as a lab rat, Cain appeared to want nothing more than to make friends with the terrans (humans) and was appointed their leader when he became old enough to hold rank in the UNASF.
However; this gentle exterior hid some ugly undersides. While he truly loved his family, he resented the terrans just as much as his brother for the experiments and substandard way they were treated. A hatred he preferred to keep hidden, festering under the surface. His relationship with his siblings is complex as well; he loves them all dearly, that isn't ever in question, but he certainly harbours jealousy over the relationship Lilith and Abel share. He is the peak of what the scientists could achieve - out-performing Abel (who was actually created as 'spare parts' for Cain should he ever need them) in every single test. He believed that Lilith, who was the pinnacle of achievement in the female side, should be with him for the sake of genetic superiority.
Similarly, he resented that Abel didn't view him as more important than Lilith; jealous of the time the two spent together alone. And yet, these emotions were also never expressed for the sake of the love he held for all his siblings - he is most often seen as the benevolent and loving elder brother, who was well-loved by his family and the other colonists alike.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
As a genetically advanced clone, Cain was created to be naturally stronger and faster than a normal human. His endurance is much better, which includes less need for food and drink on a regular basis, and his immune system is almost impeccable.
However, saying this, he is still technically human; he has no amazing powers and if you cut him, he will still bleed all over the floor.
[ Other Important Facts ] :
Cain is blind as a bat without his glasses.
He hates sweet food as much as his twin loves them.
His favourite food is fish and chips.
[ Sample ] :
Well now, this was certainly not anywhere he recognised... Cain pushed the glasses up his nose and peered up at the extremely unfamiliar sky... that looked suspiciously less like a sky and more like an ocean. But it was still far more blue than anything he should, by rights, be seeing. Where was the black expanse of space that could be seen both outside the viewports of the Ark and the dome of Mars. This looked almost like Earth, but he hadn't been scheduled to return there for at least another six months.
A small bubble of excitement started in his gut, he so very rarely got the opportunity to travel back to Earth, and every trip was to be savoured. He wondered where Abel was... surely he couldn’t have got too far. His twin never left his side if they were sent off the Ark or away from the colony; it was just safer that way for the both of them. Cain could make sure Abel’s temper didn’t get the better of him too badly, although that still usually meant a stint in solitary confinement and a disciplinary hearing for the Commander, and Abel could make sure Cain didn’t walk into too many lamp-posts.
He wondered where on Earth this was, the buildings were like no style he recognised at all. Perhaps it was a provincial part of Albon, he really hoped so, if this was Albion then they could sample some of their world famous fish and chips. But, with a sigh, he had to concede it was more likely to be the Germanic Kingdom if only he was present - after all, he was property of that ‘great’ nation. A slightly bitter twist to his thoughts had him glancing around, as though he thought anyone watching might be able to see the ugly inner thoughts of the gentle Cain Knightlord.
Sighing, he scrubbed a hand through blonde hair and wondered just how late he was going to be for this mission briefing.
"Ah... hello? If anyone can hear me? This is United Nations Aerospace Major Knightlord, I appear to be... a little lost. Again."
