On saturday I attended an Aikido seminar. The term seminar brings to my mind an instant image of a large room full of people listening to an "experienced" speaker of some sort lecturing the rest of the sitting folks on a subject of interest. Perhaps there might be question asking and answering involved.
Nope. Definitely no question asking involved in an Aikido seminar. And if you can actually hear what the guest instructor is saying, you get a cookie; two cookies if you can hear him and you know what the hell he is talking about.
Picture a small room crowded with so many people that you can't extend your arms without touching someone. Now, half at least of these people are black belt and up, and everyone there is more experienced than yourself. The Sensei there grabs a guy, throws him or puts him in some sort of painful hold two or three times, and then everyone bows, partners up, and beats the crap out of each other.
This is all fun and good but, I couldn't figure out half of what the instructor was trying to show. When I'd ask my partner what was going on (quietly, because talking is a big no-no), they would look at me like I had a dead fetal kitten growing out of my forehead and not answer. When I didn't ask they would tell me I was doing it wrong, and then look at me like I had a dead fetal kitten growing out of my forehead. To top it off there was no room to throw anyone, so I have no idea how we managed that.
All in all it was fun. However I came home to find that I had a dead fetal kitten growing out of my forehead.
For the past three days I have not been able to properly lower myself from the sitting position, or stand up from sitting. Ouch. Apparently I have muscles there.
I made an impulse video game purchase last night. DDR Mario Mix. It's super cheesy but kind of fun. I've already beaten in, but there are different difficulty settings. I love the game pad for it. Unlike our other DDR pad this one does not slip around an bunch up. Woot!
I'm off to drink green tea and organize my closet.
