1. January's recommendation post. Ask, give, receive.

2. Next weekend we discuss Resenting the Hero. Be there or be square. (Says the person that hasn't started reading yet... This weekend, I swear.)

3. Discussion topic! I subscribe to this book newsletter and in yesterday's issue, they linked to this article about the Nine Coolest Literary Read more... )

Favorite fictional siblings!

1. The Powers children from the President's Daughter series.
2. The Blythes from Anne of Green Gables
3. The Austins from L'Engle's Chronos books
4. The Bridgertons from Julia Quinn's Bridgerton series
5. The Weasleys from Harry Potter

My favorite things I read this week were all the Betsy-Tacy books (come read at belovedbooks!), Epic Fail by Claire LaZebnik, and Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean (the rest of the series of impossibly long titles aren't as good, but holy shit, amazing makeout/sex scenes). Everything else was just sort of okay.

My first thought was the Weasleys too!

The POWERS CHILDREN! They might get my vote for most REALISTIC siblings. Or, well, realistic in capturing the . . . harder aspects of being siblings, I guess?

1. Weasleys! (Harry Potter books)
2. The Austin siblings from Madeline L'Engle's books.
3. The March sisters from Little Women, etc.
4. The Baudelaire siblings from A Series of Unfortunate Events

I'm sure there are more, but it is early and my brain does not work yet.

I'm still reading Bossypants, because I suck and I have trouble finding time to read books when it's much easier to surf the web one-handed (with baby in the other arm in case that's unclear).

Siblings, well, the Blythes and the Weasleys were mentioned, but definitely those. Katniss and Prim. I like siblings with a huge age difference too, like Mia and her little brother in the Princess Diaries, and Aurélie and her little sister in Le journal d'Aurélie Laflamme. It's cute!

Also if some of you are librarians on goodreads, they're having trouble with amazon which means that a lot of books with imported data from there are in sort of danger of disappearing. (There's no need to worry too much though, because they have a new source, but still I'm not sure my little French Canadian books will stay on there.) More details here (probably locked if you're not a librarian?). I plan to rescue books all week because it pleases my OCD very much.

I can imagine that web surfing is easier with baby than reading, yes.

Siblings with big age differences are fun, I agree.

Siiblings with large age differences are FUN! My sister and I are only two years apart and I guess it's fun to see a different side of things? In the books I read as a teen, it seemed like teens always HATED it when their parents had babies, but, even then, I thought it would've been fun. :D

Oh, I'll check that out on goodreads! That sounds like something that's up my alley.

(Also! If anyone's interesting in becoming a librarian, it's super-easy! Just send them a paragraph saying you want to be one and that's it!)

I've been bad about reading this week because of reasons but I should be getting back into it. I'm going to read Emma before the end of the month if it kills me.

Katie liked it! So there is a good chance you will too, I think. It's very readable.

I've read Emma before! It was a long time ago, but I didn't enjoy it. I hope it was because I was forced to read it for school, and also 18 but it's blocked me a bit. Blerg.

Ugh, that sucks. One of my junior high school teachers didn't want me to read Emma since it wasn't as important a book as P&P. That teacher was kind of an idiot. I hope you end up liking it after all!

ISN'T IT THE WORST? It's like they weren't even TRYING.

Yes! I love your list. Betsy and Julia are awesome as are the Hathaways and the Pikes! LOOOOOOVE.

Hee! I want to go on a Nancy Drew binge one of these days, but mostly by a Nancy Drew binge I want to reread the Nancy Drew-Hardy Boys Super Mysteries where Nancy and Frank were always on the verge of hooking up.

BTW, did you see that Grace is on a Bridgerton binge? She finished book one last night and has already started book three. I'm so proud!
