The Wednesday Wars? Yes, literally right before this one! It's FANTASTIC too! I don't know why I didn't read it like two years ago!

1. Name of book. The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
2. Small blurb about the book. The Golden Compass, a story ostensibly for children but one perhaps even better appreciated by adults. The protagonist of this complex fantasy is young Lyra Belacqua, a precocious orphan growing up within the precincts of Oxford University. But it quickly becomes clear that Lyra's Oxford is not precisely like our own--nor is her world. For one thing, people there each have a personal daemon, the manifestation of their souls in animal form.
3. Why this book is awesome. UGH, IT JUST ISSSSS. Phillip Pullman is a genius of our times. His Dark Materials is brilliant as a whole, and just. SO MUCH LOVE. Everyone should read these books.

I read this series for the first time a few months ago and just loved it. I was completely astounded that something so intellectual could be so moving. Plus I cannot help that love an author who trusts children with a book like this, who refuses to mollycoddle or talk down to them. Definitely a favourite!

1. Name of book. The Murder of Bindy MacKenzie by Jaclyn Moriarty
2. Small blurb about the book. "Bindy Mackenzie believes herself to be the smartest, kindest girl at Ashbury High. Unfortunately, she is alone in that belief.
To prove her likeability, Bindy decides to document her life in transcripts, essays, and e-mails. What this reveals is a girl who's funny, passionate, hilariously self-righteous...and in danger.
Someone wants to kill Bindy Mackenzie. The clues are in the documents. The detectives are the very students who hate her most. And time is running out."
3. Why this book is awesome. Oh how I love this book. It is funny and has intrigue and mystery mixed with so much heart. Jaclyn Moriarty is a genius. The cleverness! (It is a companion to the book The Year of Secret Assignments, but you don't have to have any knowledge of that book to know what is going on. It just has some of the same characters.) This book is in my top 5 faves. It is just awesome. Just so very very awesome.

Yeeeeesss! I love Bindy Mackenzie. (Though that said, my personal recommendation with Jaclyn Moriarty is to always start with Feeling sorry for Celia.)

But basically I love everything she does! And I really loved that Bindy got her own book after Finding Cassie Crazy (the original title of Year of Secret Assignments here in Australia).

Feeling Sorry for Celia is such a lovely book. I haven't read it in years (frankly, I need to buy it). When I checked it out of the library I hadn't realized it was part of the same "world" as Cassie and Bindy until I started reading it. I love that Bindy got her own book too, because she is such a fun character. I have been dying to read The Ghosts of Ashbury High. Have you read it?

I just picked Bindy, because it is my favorite. I would highly reccomend that everyone read all of them because they are all so fantastic in their own ways.
