Chivalry is not dead

Yesterday a very small thing made my day. At work last night, I waited on a Soldier and his family. I think he had already gone to war. The way he walked seemed as if he carried an injury and tried to hide it. I felt very honored to be able to do such a minor thing for him, serve someone who served our country.

Another server approached me and said "when the soldier is finished with his meal, bring me his bill. The gentleman at my table wants to pay his tab"

I was literally speechless. I went to the gentlemans table and brought him the bill and asked what should I do if the soldier would like to know who paid his bill. The gentleman said to me "Tell him that id like to stay anonymous, but I want to thank him for the great service he does for us"

When the soldier finished his meal and asked for the check, i very proudly replied "actually sir, your bill has already been paid by another guest in the restaurant. He wanted to say thank you for the service you do for our country". The soldier looked at me with such appreciation in his eyes, shook my hand and said "thank you so much, i feel very honored, please tell the gentleman thank you as well".

It was great to see that a some people will still go out of their way for a stranger in uniform. Make sure at the table this year when you give thanks, give thanks to kindness and for our military. Whether or not you support the war, there is someone out there fighting so you dont have to, and you should be thankful for that.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
