Yesterday, Rob, Erik, Ali, and I went over to the driving range at Hartefeld National. I had not hit since the summer of 2002, so I was quite out of practice. Actually, I never was very good to begin with, so I hardly noticed :) My swing was greatly improved, however, when I really started to shift my weight properly. I at least hit the ball every time then. This trip was prompted by Rob golfing with his parents on Sunday morning, and me not going with them because I just don't have enough of a game yet to go out on the course. Golf takes a long time to master, and I am just a baby in that world. But some day, I'll be on the LPGA Tour :) I really do enjoy it. It was hot, hot, hot out on the range, but I managed to use enough sunscreen to avoid getting burned. After golf and nice long showers, Rob and I went to Tyler Fitzgerald's, a local pub, for dinner and their weekly charity poker tournament. Rob won at his table, and I was knocked out first at mine. However, it was just bad luck. I think I played my cards pretty well.

Other things of note:
  • I finally got the rod hung up in my laundry room. It's working out marvelously!

  • I tried out some blue mascara. I thought it would look crazy and wild, but it actually looked pretty nice. It wasn't nearly as harsh as the black I normally wear. I may be a convert.

  • I've started the Intermediate level cake decorating class. We learn lots of new flowers and borders, and a couple of new icings. Fun!

  • I created a red, white, and blue planter out of a big tin bucket and some paint. It's now holding many of my summer bulbs that should have been planted ages ago. I still need to plant some more bulbs and all of my snapdragons. The planter is very cute, and very me!

  • I've been involved in a lively discussion based on this post in being_homeless' LiveJournal.

  • I've made little progress on my Italian Lessons, but those CDs aren't going anywhere.

  • I started volunteering again at the Delaware Humane Association as a cat counselor. I sent home a cute kitten named Clyde over the weekend. His sister's name is Bonnie. It's funny, because the more things there change, the more they stay the same.

  • I left a message for Dr. Sen to see if he had talked to Dr. Liebsch yet.

  • I've sent off a letter requesting my medical records from the hospital. Does 75 cents per page seem like a reasonable fee? After an enormous struggle with the billing department's phone system, they are sending me a copy of my itemized bill, as well.

  • I've decided that July 4th was also my Independence Day from fat. I will walk or do some other form of exercise every single day from this day forward. The food will fall into place later, or maybe it won't, but I'm not going to obsess on it right now. I must do the exercise thing. It's the most important factor for me. Sunday I walked for 30 minutes and yesterday I golfed for an hour.

  • I finished Rob's crocheted blanket, and I am working on two scarves that I might sell to a local boutique store. That would be cool!

  • I've begun my filing in a very cursory manner. I need to really make a better effort towards that.

  • I saw a single perfect cicada husk clinging to a dead daffodil stalk in my front yard. Hardly the invasion I was looking for!

  • I've been sleeping better and on a more regular schedule. It's still not a 40-hour work week schedule, but it's much closer.
I'm starving. I think I'll have an early lunch!
