A question for a future fic

It's only a minor point in the story, but my brain is fixating on it so much that I can't seem to write beyond this point.  The movie is gone from theaters here in Alaska (*Wails at the heavens*), otherwise I just go again to find out for myself. Lacking that option, however, I figured I'd turn to my fellow obsessives for aid.

Did the global communications blackout happen before or after the Witwickys  were taken from their home by Sector Seven?  I'm thinking it was after, but since my memory is all kinds of craptastic, I don't know for sure.

So, uh... help?  *Attempts to look endearing*
