The Calgary Expo was fun. Didn't see Nimoy in targsuit, but I wasn't about to fight with his line of fans and bodyguards. I did run across an older man dressed as a Starfleet Vulcan who looked remarkably like Spock so good enough! Sadly not when I was in costume. But Toby did get a photo with Batman so it evens out?
Toby's vision was dead the first day. So my handlers just shouted "left. a little right. Everyone get out of the way!" and it worked surprisingly well with a few near misses and crying children. Did troubleshooting the next morning and found it was because a battery (in the pack powering the camera) had exploded. Didn't catch it the first day because the goggles could see there was a camera attached but where just not passing along any video. Usually when the camera is unpowered the googles automatically shut off. *shrugs*
Turns out my tolerance in a non-fanned (the fans seemed more trouble than they were worth so I left them at home) and non-cooled (No ice machines here and I forgot ice packs for the hydration pack) quadsuit where I spend the majority of my time on all 4s walking or standing is 45 minutes.
Certainly way easier to wear than last year's CCEE I think. A year of design improvements goes a long ways. (Happy birthday Toby!) Sadly no Klingons thing year :/ Not that I saw anyways. Out of costume I did see a Cardassian though!
Two changes to make for extended wear - 1. get a soft sleeve for the cords holding the head up. They rub right against my backbone where other straps cross and make a huge painful welt after about 40 minutes >< 2. throw some foam in the forelegs to maybe lead to less ripping open of my knuckles (even through the leather gloves).
I am back to being way tempted to just wear a normal cosplay costume next year. Not as epic maybe, but would be nice to wear it the whole day :p I do have a batgirl costume I've been putting off for years. I really really need to revisit it.
Didn't buy anything aside from a lemonade before the stand got super busy. I still haven't read the graphic novels I bought last year -_- and none of the Batman merch intersted me enough to put money down. I'm very particular since I prefer my art to have feeling rather than be finely detailed and technically correct. And lots of comic art tends towards the latter.
As always, the people made the con. No shoutouts because if you saw me at all you can assume you helped make the 2 days very enjoyable :3
If/when I find any photos I'll put them on my FA. Unless there's something I really want everyone to see and then I'll spam it. I don't have the will nowadays to pour through pages of con photos, so if anyone just happens to see a photo of Toby, please and thank you let me know where it is :D
