:( I'm so sorry to hear about that. *hugs* I actually haven't read anything by her, but I did read that she wrote Howl's Moving Castle, which I've been meaning to watch for a long time.

If someone wanted to read something by her, what would you suggest?

She did, although the movie is almost completely different from the book.

Do you like books for young adults? If so, you could definitely start with Howl.

I rarely do YA books, but I have read a few (Harry Potter, Twilight, Speak). I may give it a shot, but it probably won't be for a bit with the other stuff I'm supposed to read already (I have a publisher/PR company asking me for reviews on a few books.

You read Twilight? o_0 How could you stand it?

Her adult books are also quite good--Deep Secret is the first one that springs to mind. My all-time favorite of hers is Dogsbody.

Yes. I read Twilight back in 2008 when it seemed my friend-list was all talking about it (going between people who loved it and hated it.) It was an easy read, but also difficult in that it was badly written and I kept seeing things that bothered me (Edward's almost stalking her/watched her sleep even before they were dating, Bella's obsession and almost self-hurting, any number of things with the last book). It was difficult, but it was kinda like watching a trainwreck which kept getting more interesting.

I had a long-time-hs friend who I think I actually lost over it. She was pretty obsessed with Twilight (to the point of getting a Twilight tattoo, saying that she wanted to be someone's "Bella" and find her "Edward" all the time.) We had a disagreement over the merits of Twilight and she pretty much stopped talking to me regularly. lol.
