zuh?

I got carded the other day. When I first turned twenty-one I felt almost smug being able to show an valid ID, but that coolness diminished quickly, especially spending a semester in Europe where the only thing I got carded for was getting student rates at museums in Germany. However, this new event wasn't carding for alcohol or cigarettes, or even lower admission. No, I got carded for renting Sin City, a rated-R movie.

You'd think (I would, at least) that in Texas, a state that issues vertical licenses to those under 21, that at first glimpse of my horizontal license the kid at Blockbuster would apologize, or at least stop his inquiry to my over-17-ness, but he scrutinized the license, checking the date. "Whoa," he said, "You must get this all the time."

No, not really, I told him. In fact I've rented plenty of R movies before and after I was seventeen, and I don't think I've ever been carded for that. I guess I'm growing into boyish good looks...
