Title: Sleeping Beauty drabble: In The Air Tonight
Pairing: YunJae
Rating: G
Length: Drabble
Genre: AU, fluff, slice of life
Disclaimer: I don't own anything apart from the story. I wish I had YunJae and if I had my way, they'd move to New Zealand so they can be married here :P
AN1: You have to listen to
this song while you read…skip to 3:00 and listen from there. It’s a damn old song but such a classic. I love it :D This is a drabble in the sense that it’s (ONLY JUST) less than 1,000 words :D
AN2: Un-betaed and although this is from my
Sleeping Beauty verse, you don't need to have read it. All my oneshots and drabbles for the
Sleeping Beauty universe can be found
HERE - Btw if you can't get into the comm (cos I suck at even being in LJ land for anything), just go to my Master Fic List and you can find the stories there.
“Wait for it.”
Yunho’s brow knits as he watches his wife watch their son.
“Wait for what?”
“Just wait…”
Yunho cocks his head, eyeing his young wife who is standing stock still, watching their 13 month old baby son currently sitting in the sun room who also has his head cocked.
Father and son, head tilted slightly, their waiting pose is identical.
“What am I waiting for?”
“Just watch,” Jaejoong whispers, voice breathless. “Remember how I told you I think he’ll become a musician?”
“Because he likes your Japanese rock songs?”
“He has good taste,” the younger man sniffs even as he takes a step closer, eyes never leaving his preternaturally still son basking in the spring sun.
“I’ve never seen him so still,” Yunho wonders aloud, taking a step forward, only to be stayed and hushed by his wife.
“Noona discovered this by accident when she was babysitting. He will stay still for this song.”
“Phil Collins?” Yunho questions incredulously.
“Shhhhh! Watch!”
Well the hurt doesn’t show, but the pain still grows
It’s no stranger to you and me
And to Yunho’s surprise, his still young son suddenly moves, wiggling his squishy round body and waving his short little arms, in perfect time to the drum highlight of the song, so much so that the unstable baby topples over from his vigorous movement. His peals of joyful laughter reminds him so much of another gorgeous little angel in a sun room not unlike that one all those years ago, and to the CEO’s surprise, he feels a sudden heat in his eyes as he listens to unadulterated happiness of his youngest son.
A familiar laughter that calms the older man.
The memory of which can drive away the darkest parts of his tainted soul.
Parts that still come to the fore in the deepest and blackest parts of the night.
Nightmares of losing Jaejoong, something he has actually lived through almost three times now.
Baby Changmin does not notice his parents at all, intent on the music, gurgling happily, as he stares at the ceiling and continues to move his arms to the beat of the drums as the song continues to play over the hidden speakers in the room.
Husband turns to his wife who has the back of his hand over his mouth as he struggles to stifle his laughter, doe eyes glistening with tears of mirth, and Yunho is helpless.
Jaejoong sees the starkness in his husband’s eyes, and he wonders what caused it for there is nothing but sunshine in that room and in their home.
Gurgling child forgotten for a moment, he steps forward, eyes still mirthful but muted, lifting a hand up to brush away at a piece of lint on his husband’s shoulder, gaze searching before lifting his hand higher.
“Was it the lyrics?” Jaejoong asks softly, cupping his husband’s cheek gently, caressing the rough skin of the man’s five o’clock shadow.
Yunho shakes his head.
Jaejoong’s eyes leave his husband’s for a moment to stare at their son still enjoying the music on his thick blanket, all four limbs moving to the beat.
The boy is still laughing to himself.
Jaejoong loses sight of his youngest as he wraps his arms around the taller man, and nuzzling against his jaw. “You have me, Yunho-yah…all of me… our Changminnie sounds like me, doesn’t he?”
Yunho closes his eyes and hugs his wife, not answering, letting the sun drive away that very brief moment of gloom.
-
The song repeats itself, and by the time the Jung couple disentangle themselves from each other, their baby is back sitting up, once again waiting patiently for that part of the song.
This time when it happens, Yunho’s laughter joins his son’s, the baby immediately crawling towards his daddy when he hears him, beaming from ear to ear. He can walk, but he is still rather unstable and crawling gets him to his destination twice as fast!
Lifting the adorable round infant up, holding him close with his other arm slung around his wife’s waist, he kisses both pouty mouths in turn, making both his loves giggle.
The song is not yet at an end, and little Changminnie proceeds to use his father’s broad shoulder as his makeshift drum, much to the amusement of his parents.
Perhaps when his son is old enough, he will get him a drum kit.
AN: Oh god, I’m so sorry but this song was playing in my office, and I was doing the drumming on my table with my pens and cracked one of the legal secretary’s up and in that moment, I saw the Changmin part of this scene unfold in my head and I couldn’t stop giggling. She thought I was crazy and I can’t say I blame her. Also…does anyone remember Changmin and his drum kit? :D Please don’t tell me I imagined that he had one cos I’m sure he did and drove his siblings crazy hmmm…
AN2: The latter part of the drabble…what can I say? I didn’t write that, it wrote itself. Maybe I’ve forgotten how to write fluff…or I just miss Yunho that damn much ;; He wrecks me...
