1,2, Freddy's coming for you

So this weekend I hosted a 'Nightmare On Elm Street' marathon. Watching all of the Elm Street films contained in the box set ( which if you are a fan is an amazing set and a must buy).

I did not watch 'Freddy vs Jason'. While I do consider it more of an Elm Street movie than a 13th, I did not include it in the marathon for 2 reasons : 1.) It is not titled 'A Nightmare on Elm Street ( 6&7 are not either , but they are in the set) 2.) It is more of a hot topic update of 2 great characters, and not a solo Freddy movie.

Here's how I'd rate the movies (in order of what I think are the best out of them)

1.) A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) The first and best. Great cast, excellent plot, really inventive. Great make-up effects (perhaps the best looking Freddy make up in the series) Perhaps the best 'slasher' movie of it's decade

2.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors (1987) The movie that set the rules for the other sequels. Gave us hints of who Freddy was beyond anything that had been set up in the first 2 films. Gave us excellent effects, cool characters, an excellent Freddy skeleton fight, and showed the audience a glimpse of just how deep the dream world can go.

3.) Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994) What I feel to be the most inventive entry into the series since the first film. Watching this movie at the end of the night (actually the beginning of the day) was great because it was more meaningful. The movie deals with the phenomenon that Freddy Kruger had become and it's effects on  the 'real world'.  This movie also has my favorite incarnation of 'the glove'.

4.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 2 : Freddy's Revenge (1985) I used to have this one one the bottom of my list for many reasons, mainly that it didn't seem to follow the rules that the later movies followed, but after viewing it again, it is perhaps the most underrated of the series. This movie is certainly the most terrifying entry next to the first one. There are moments of pure terror in this film. When Freddy stands in front of the geyser of fire and says ' You are all my children now.' still  gives me chills  to think about.

5.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) This movie has what I consider to be the best dream sequences out of the entire series. It also gives the audience a cool glimpse of Freddy's back story.  Also has some excellent stop motion animation to it.

6.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 6: Freddy's Dead (1991) This one is the most slapstick of the group. It also seems to have the most fun with its characters. Does not follow the storyline set up in 3-5, but that doesn't matter. This is probably the most fun to watch and not have to think about. Also contains a 3-D sequence that, while not the best 3-D, is kinda cool.

7.) A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) The worst of the bunch, now that doesn't mean that I don't like it ( I think they are all great movies), but this one is really kind bland about everything it does. Has some of the lamest dream sequences, but has some cool aspects to it (like how Freddy is defeated at the end). To give you a hint (as if people reading this haven't seen this one before) this movie was directed by Renny 'Mindhunters' Harlin.

Now as I stated earlier, I think they are all great movies, and any one of them would be fun to watch.

If you are a fan of this series, and have never watched  them all in a row, I would recommend doing it.
Just remember, what ever you do.....
DON'T
FALL
ASLEEP...
