Id say you are doing your part to keep them from the evil as best you can, as long as you dont respond in kind, which i cant see of you. Nancy may well be (HA! Is, assuming [as I do] you are telling the truth in an un-biased way) falling down in her responsibilities as a parent, and yes, the kids will see right through the bullshit.
Thing is, tho, Tim, keeping you kids away from evil is only part of the job of a parent. The other side of the coin (and just as important!) is teaching them how to deal with the evil that you (or they, when adults) can't stop. From what I have read, you are doing fine. Sean saw what was happening, and kicked out a quick text giving you a heads up, allowing you a chance to figure out what was going on, and try and come up with a plan.
Sean already, from the last paragraph, understands full well the bullshit with nancy and jeff. What's more important, tho, Tim, is that he is apparently reacting to it in a mature, and adult way, and trying to distance himself from it, while not making a childish scene about it.
All in all, Well done, sir. You, in my estimation, get a B+ on this course of parenting. (an A would have resulted had you kept your temper when nancy first told you she woudlnt pick you up. That said, id have probably gotten at best a C. heh. )
