09102010 Day 5 of Captivity

Sep 10, 2010 19:32

No calls. I slept as normal people do. Early bedtime tonight to prepare for Lpar battle in the morning.

Remote access problems have plagued for months now. It works fine but at certain points -mini-interruptions in the morning
and around 1400, it will drop and not come back for 10-15 minutes and continue until about 1500-1530.

The tikka masala squad followed the script and wasted a couple hours de-installing this and that. I’ve ruled out their handiwork
and if it was using wireless, the home router or bad cables.

Weird Herald’s Work from Home Decree
I got a wild hair and used a speed test site to test various configurations and inadvertently found -what I believe- is the cause:
InfiddleVestCorp’s remote access set-up. I think my IP could get some of the blame but don’t know how to figure that -yet.
The speed test shows that the work laptop connects to a server in Cincy, OH. Compared to one in Dallas, there’s some latency.

Knowing all this - it started when I could no longer select the server location for remote access and it makes sense.

Compounding the problem is usage - no problems on Monday or Friday. Just Tues-Thurs, the only days jack-offs make
the appearance of doing any work. People piling on to do whatever it is they do to justify their existence.

I’ll throw this out to Weird Herald, who freaks out when you’re working from home and have access problems.
It’s almost odd how quickly the guy gets worked up.

Now to bide my time until the machines call me to say they’re broken.

weird herald, work, infiddlevestcorp, work from home, on-call
