The Forgetful Streetsweeper

Aug 15, 2009 23:18

Pulling into Phở Legacy to get some, you know… Phở and I noticed a police car stopped in the street, lights on.

Once I got out of my vehicle, I could see a cop talking to an elderly lady that was on foot, carrying a broom and dustpan. This wasn’t a good scene.

The lady tried to make a “run” for it but the policeman gently corralled her as she shouted, “Help!”…“Bastard!”.

Surreal Dining at It’s…
The waitress seated me with full view of the event. About two minutes later back-up arrived, then a supervisor. Cuffed and seated in the back of a squad car, the "sweeper" awaited.

Luckily, as I was leaving, a couple came and picked up the lady. I couldn’t help but think of my parents and what they could be like in the next 10-15 years. There’s going to be a huge elderly population and a lot of consideration in dealing with their needs.

Dread.
