Release from Captivity 122208

Sunday: Irritating calls during the day but no disturbing calls during the night.

Yesterday additional tape problems surfaced but there was no way to fix this without proper planning and change control. This wasn’t a big deal, just a pain. My manager, Ms.Ed even called to see if I’d run through everything. Ugh. I told her that I didn’t due to the reasons above. You don’t jeopardize systems when the next day is a business day unless it’s a major problem. She knew it but I think the year-end bonuses have her all gung-ho.

Then came the Ops call prior to BeerDiabla coming over. Same tape crap, different shift and others were involved. The weekend change manager from my group got called into it to review things and what do you know? Today I found out they decided to wait until this weekend at the earliest to attempt to fix things and hold a meeting to review the other tape problems rather than work on them last minute while punch drunk from covering overnight changes.

Though a quiet night, the machines took one last stab - I took a call at 06:20am - too late! Deferred to midnight for repair and someone else gets to babysit.

Tonight, I sleep as a free man, no longer on-call. Low chance of disturbing calls -work related anyways. I can move about without worry, my plans will not be squashed.

I’m off the rest of the week starting tomorrow. Now the machines call someone else to say they’re broken…

work, infiddlevestcorp, on-call
