Gathering at Gordon Biersch June 2008
A free weekend means idle hands waiting for the devil to put a glass of beer in them. I called upon my fellow enablers to meet up at Gordon Biersch [GB], a brewpub chain with a new location in Plano, TX.
On arrival, I met with an upscale shopping center still under construction, which foreshadowed the missteps of a restaurant staff at a few small points but luckily it was food, rather than beer related. They’ve been open almost two months so slack is to be given.

Always start with a sampler at a brewpub to check out their wares and plan your course. At GB, a dollar a beer is the admittance fee and is quite worth it.

Let the Oinking Begin
During an in depth discussion of data transfer strategies, food was ordered and this is where the cracks at GB showed.
Gorgonzola Potato Wedges - delivered with no Gorgonzola. Fry cook, Expo, Waitstaff all missed this point.
Papa Ryan’s kitchen sink pizza had to wait on dough, so the pie was free. It was good, so he ordered another one. Being a pizza snob, I think another visit needs to be made before making any recommendations.
Garlic fries were nice and aromatic but weren’t equal to those from O’Brien’s in San Diego, which are the [garlic] bomb. When ordering at GB, I’d ask for the garlic to be doubled up.
In closing, AlienGarvin reports that he got a new cat, upping the tally to three.

Line-up Judgment:
- Golden Export - for the light beer drinkers, not for me.
- Hefewiezen - very rich, Live Oak now has competition for this style in Texas.
- Czech Lager - very dry, didn’t make my boy parts tingly.
- Märzen - alright for relaxed drinking but not sweet enough to my preference.
- Schwarzbier - more sweet than dry, nice. Thumb’s up.
