I can't believe that I haven't mentioned this on LJ, at least recently... this Thursday I'm headed to Columbus to attend
Magi-Fest, basically kind of like a Comic Con for magicians... so even geekier and even more almost-all-men. :)
Jen is coming with for a couple of days, but it's not often I take trips that are pretty much "just for me." I guess it says something though, that she goes to places like New Orleans and Portugal without me, and I go to... conventions.
(Oh, crap, I'd better find something to do with our dog while we're both gone.)
Anyway, speaking of what a dork I am, I've been playing the heck out of Sleeping Dogs. It's a couple of years old, didn't get a ton of press, but fantastic word-of-mouth. Really fun, it's everything I like about Grand Theft Auto games with improvements, but with most of what I dislike de-emphasized or left out. Very influenced by Hong Kong action movies. Like GTA, it balances a serious story with some over-the-top action and humor; unlike GTA, is mostly succeeds in doing so without serious narrative dissonance.
Don't get me wrong, winter sucks, but it is a good time for getting under a blanket and guiltlessly playing video games (or reading, or movies) for hours in the dark evenings.
