It's been a while since my last travelpost, thanks to my free time being occupied with fiddling for the SPN_ReverseBang:)
Yesterday I posted my papercut artwork and before I continue working on my second RB project, I figured I'd do a short Fjordpost in between!
At this part of the cruise there are no more huge Fjords, but instead there are lovely coastal towns to explore. This day was originally planned as a sea day, which I loved, because there's no pressure to *do* anything and I would simply enjoy food, books and staring into the distance from my balcony (in no particular order). But before departure the intinary had turned Day 7 into shoreday in Haugesund.
By this time my head was pretty full from all the awesome I had seen in the previous days and I really really really had wanted that seaday. It took me while to realize that I DIDN'T HAVE TO GO EXPLORING!! ALL TIME WAS MINE!! And although it wasn't easy to ignore potential sights ashore, I decided to create my own procrastination day on board. I only left the ship to mail my postcards.
So this is a relatively tiny picspam of that short walk into town and mostly views from the balcony and lovely lovely foooooood. Enjoy!
Day 7: 5th stop - Haugesund
The ship docks around 8 a.m. and from my balcony I have a great view over the water.
Thanks elevator for telling me it's Tuesday (September 6th). I have breakfast at the fancy Tide A La Cart restaurant: an ham & cheese omelet, with a hashbrown, sausages and toast (I didn't eat the tomato and of course had pastry on the side:)
View from the other side of the ship before I go back to my room to write postcards on the balcony.
Just before noon I hear weird noises from below and that turned out to be the lifeboats being lowered for testing!
You can see the tiny speedboat coordinating all the drops; the crew seemed to have a lot of fun floating around and I was very excited that I got to see this. I would have missed that if it wasn't for my lazy day, haha!
But when my cards were written I did stroll into town, looking for the post office and came across this cool manhole cover! Also a great view from the high bridge between the harbour and Haugesund centre.
Looking back at harbour island Risøy; the cruise ship is dwarfed by the massive Nordsjøhallen at the shipyard.
The main shopping street in Haugesund has a mini walk of fame; Liv Ullmann was the biggest name I recognized:) Loved the colourful mural.
Found the post office, yay mission accomplished.
Lovely flowery sculpture at Landmannstorget: Gledesspredeen (The spreader of joy) by Fritz Røed (1979)
It was only a short walk but I was glad there were signs leading back to the harbour.
Risøybroa in all its glory.
Colourful and funky shaped houses in Risøy.
The ship is always impressive up close *chinhands*
Back on board and my loot from Haugesun, found the snuggliest softest moose and the grossest snacks.
Took the cool elevator to buffet restaurant Windjammer for a late lunch.
A live quesadilla station; got one with just meat and sauce :-) Also had bread with cheese and pesto salad (I KNOW) and a cherry mousse with lemonade. (for my FIRST lunch)
Then I did a bit of a photowalk on deck before returning to the restaurant for...
... my SECOND lunch: fresh icecream sunday! I held back at the toppings and only got...
... a chocolate cookie with my icecream;) I did add some melon and a burger though :-p
Then I went back to my cabin for a bit of reading, before changing into my bathingsuit for a swim \o/
Two hours later I was back at my private balcony with cake and lemonade for more reading <3
LOOK AT THAT VIEW! So relaxing.
I don't remember if I showed this before; but one of the tv channels shows the location of the ship at all times!
What a fantastic day and to finish it off: dinner a la carte, guess what I picked!
Risky, but for my starter I took a chance on the Roasted Poblano Pepper Soup, which was indeed spicy, but I loved it.
There were so many good meat dishes to choose from for the main course, I went for the Steak Mushroom Pie, it was served with cauliflower and carrots (vegetables that I actually like!) Check the next picture for what's under that glorious puffed pastry top...
Juicy steak bits, baby! And then the scrumptious dessert: a Lemon Curd Tartlet, which was topped with torched meringue, mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
One of the BEST days!
To be continued:)
