Right after I got back home from visiting ArtZuid in Amsterdam back in September, I did a
quick Instragram post with ten pics, meant to be an appetizer for a long picspam follow up on LiveJournal & DreamWidth a couple days later. But then work took over my life for a bit and the final preparations for the SPN_ReverseBang ate up a lot of time too and then I went to London and then I went to Amsterdam for another exhibition and this is the first weekend in a long time where I had nothing planned, so I'm finally getting around to a sorting out my photos!
ArtZuid is an outdoor art exhibition in the South of Amsterdam that's organized every two years, with pieces from sculptors all around the world. For this year's edition I got on a train with my mom and we hired public transport bicycles at the Amsterdam South station from where brotherdearest H. guided us around. I think we only missed 4 or 5 sculptures from the total of about 90! I didn't get good photos of all of them, and some of them had to be captured from more angles; this picspam contains 87 photos in total;) Enjoy!
WE ARE not ALONE - Roko Rono & Rohn Rennon by Joanneke Meester (NLD)
Sunndy day shadow yay! Brotherdearest, Me and Mom :)
Signs by by Joanneke Meester (NLD) - those yellow signs are usually up for warnings about road works, these have motivational quotes; this one says the best is yet to come
Untitled (1 of 4) - Raquel van Haver (NLD)
Big Sister by Marieke Bolhuis (NLD)
Dancers from Oblivion by Ivan Cremer (NLD)
New Life by Ronald A. Westerhuis (NLD) with reflection of the three of us;)

The one with the little hippo (II) is my favorite artwork of the day <3
The map of all 87 artworks across Amsterdam South and surroundings.
Shine by Ronald A. Westerhuis (NLD) - We're upside down!
Het Beest / The Beast by Nel van Lith (NLD)
Virgin Sun by Johan Tahon (BEL)
Zittende Vrouw / Sitting Woman by Nel van Lith (NLD)
Also one of my favorites <3
Usagi Kannon by Leiko Ikemura (JPN)
This neighbourhood has the most gorgeous façades, also recommended outside of the ArtZuid exhibition!
La Forêt Noire - Jaume Piensa (ESP)
Two of the three pieces, accompanied by a sign asking to not have dogs pee on the statues, because they got damaged by that (see the blue splashes at the bottom, ehw)
Sandwich by Sarah Lucas (GBR) and in the background golden pickle Kevin by the same artist:)
The colourful pile of saggy boobs is called Breastparty XL by Natasja Alers (NLD)
Untitled (set of three) - relaxing golden hares by Iris le Rütte (NLD)
100 Heads (10 pieces) by Marc Quinn (GBR)
This series of sculptures comprises 100 concrete busts of refugees; each portrait is inscribed with the sitter’s name, place of birth, place of current residence and one-line thought.

The Big Traveler & The Big Watcher by Jean Marie Appriou (FRA)
Those camels and their watery (mirage?) reflection is another favorite of mine <3
Brotherdearest trying for the best angle of Utopia by Atelier van Lieshout (NLD)
This purple submarine sized spermatozoid crushing men is called Darwin, also by Atelier van Lieshout (NLD) - on the other side it had a door, which was locked (apparently there's a tiny bedroom inside)
Roaming Rudia II by Ursula von Rydingsvard (USA)
Thaealab / Fox by Lin May Saeed (DEU)
Man Backwards on Horse by TAL R (DNK) (a bit of a creepy horse with its neckless head bent upwards)
BABBO by Sandro Chia (ITA)
Mom and brotherdearest peeking through Lupine Sculpture by Arne Quinze (BEL)
For the Most Beautiful One by Joseph Klibansky (NLD) was the most impressive piece of the day, so two more pics below!
Big Psycho by Erwin Wurm (AUT)
The statue that made us laugh the most; despite it being slightly depressing, we could all relate and it gave us the giggles:-D
Award for most confusing art goes to this one:
The Interpretaton and Identification of the Meaning of Life by Tirzo Martha (NLD)
45 Degrees Artificial Rock by Zhan Wang (CHN) made from stainless steel.
Golden Cockerel by Karen Sargsyan (NLD) resembles neither gold nor a cock.
LUBZAERC by Nick Ervinck (BEL) - photo by brotherdearest
Okay, not gonna lie, when I saw this one from the back I did not have very angelic thoughts...
Engel (Angel) by Huub & Adelheid Kortekaas (NLD)
Not a sculpture, but I had never seen a fire hydrant on the sidewalk like that; I only know them from American films!
Are We Not Drawn Onward, We Few, Drawn Onward to New Era? by Johannes Büttner (DEU)
Some more glorious windows and façades in Amsterdam Oud Zuid (Old South) - corner of Breughelstraat and Apollolaan (Delphi Hotel)
I found the spiderweb more fascinating than this sculpture; the ugliest and most pretentious artpiece of the day for me, which had the full title carved on the back:
Dr. Saugerz De Kunst (Der Erzrosarotepaulchenpantherz De Large Gähnt) by Jonathan Meese (JPN)
John Lennon Peace Sign by Laura Lian (GBR) in front of the Hilton Hotel (and brotherdearest with my sunglasses;)
I also loved these little cherubs in the flowerpot :-)
The Thinker by Joseph Klibansky (NLD)
~nature close up intermission~
Look at the pretty flower!
Kofi I by Lin May Saeed
Another favorite of mine and catching it with the sun shining through made me happy:
What Holds Me Back, Carries Me Further by Klara Kristalova (SWE)
A more abstract Thinker is De Denker by Lotti van der Gaag (NLD) which was strategically placed across from the real deal, Le Penseur (1881) by Rodin that sits in front of the Hilton Hotel; you can see it through the sculpture across the road! (Here's my mom trying to capture them both perfectly;)
~nature close up intermission 2~ with in the background Asoebi by Sokari Douglas Camp (NGA)
Sisters by Marieke Bolhuis (NLD)
Dragers van Verre (Carriers from Afar) by Nelson Carrilho (CUW)

Not part of ArtZuid, but a great spot for a photo: HOPE by Pieter Ceizer
Strong Women by Eline Muriël (NLD)
From the permanent collection in the tiny Emmaplein park; I thinks it looks like pig, what do you see in Verschijning (Image) by Pearl Perlmuter?
I was in awe of the masonry in this house next to the park.
We did a bit of a detour to look at the architecture of The Amsterdam Lyceum and cycle through the gates:) Then we cycled to the final part of the exhibition around the Stadionplein and park in front of the Olympic Stadium (1928).
This big yellow dude is Bartje (a well known character in famous Dutch children's books from the 1930's by Anne de Vries) by Suze Boschma Berkhou (NLD)
A permanent artpiece from 2017: 11 Rue Simon Crubellier by Matthew Darbyshire (GBR) is a complete apartment in the open air made from concrete and bronze. Its toilet, radiator and sink are broken and squirt water at random intervals which makes is very exciting to walk through;)
This is the perfect location for Athletes by Jerzy Jotka Kędziora (POL)
We were very hungry after all the cycling and art appreciation, and found comfy seats at Sloppy Joe where my brother's girlfriend M. joined us for dinner. I had a scrumptious Fat Bastard burger and the waitress combined two deserts because we couldn't choose, so we got lava cake AND icecream!
A great end to a great day:) After dinner we all cycled back to the station where mom and I handed in our bicycles and we said goodbye to H. and M.

I thought for sure I had shared photos of previous years ArtZuid, but the only one I could find was
