First actual traintrip of my vacation in Japan! I took the Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo to Utsunomiya and there I caught the local train to Nikko, a sacred sanctuary from the Edo period (1600-1868).
It is definitely a fascinating mix of ancient and modern - and food surprises are an interesting challenge. Hope your one bit ice cream was actually ice cream... I haven't got over buying an ice lolly that looked on the wrapper like it would be a nice fruity flavour and turned out to be pink frozen something with kidney beans in it!
Heehee, yes the ice cream was actual strawberry ice cream and a truely delicious treat.
I saw a lot of snacks with beans in them and was afraid to try them, that will be a challenge for next time;)
(I used the Google translate app on my phone to decipher ingredients, but that often came back with more of a mysterious haiku than a translation that made sense:)
Food haikus, fun but not that useful! LOL We were there in 2007 and had no means of translating stuff so we were relying on pictures. Not that helpful either sometimes... :D
