Another Flowersculpture parade: Bloemencorso Sint Jansklooster 2019

Aug 17, 2019 19:54

If you've been following me for a while, you may remember my visits to the big Flowersculpture Parade in Zundert in 2016 and last year; a long train- and bustrip to the South of the Netherlands that takes about three hours. This year I decided to explore two smaller events nearby; these are only a 50 minute busride away from my town! I have one planned next week and yesterday after work in the morning, I traveled to Sint Jansklooster for their yearly 'Bloemencorso'!

Unlike in Zundert where the massive flowerstructures are all pushed by manpower with a whole group of people hidden underneath, other Corsos in the Netherlands use motorized carts, so the parade goes a little faster. Obviously it's still slow enough to enjoy the show, but compared to my experience last year, it felt like they were speeding by! There were also fewer designs, but honestly this parade was just as impressive and enjoyable. I had a great time!

I made a couple of videos, here's a playlist that features the designs that had moving bits:

If you want to see all twelve designs, below is a picspam of 82 photos (hey, I had to capture them from all sides and in detail;)

Bloemencorso Sint Jansklooster 2019

So, ehm, no flowers in sight yet; because they shut down the road, the bus dropped me off on the other side of the village, which meant I had to walk in between cropfields and trees to find my way...

I'm guessing I'm close now! Found it! This is me at the end of a 40 minute walk, very happy I still made it in time, pfff.

First sneak peek of a flowerdesign in the distance. *zooms in* What the...?!

I can't wait for this parade to start :-D While walking into Sint Jansklooster I have the opportunity to see a couple of carts up close. I'm all giddy already!

A cheese themed cart, how clever is that! Anyway, let's sit down and watch the parade, it's about to start and look what's coming around the corner!

Te Water by The Next, designer: Aaron Boot --> 300,000 flowers

Yeah, I'm sure it's all meant to be very innocent; just a bunch of horses racing to get to the water and stumbling into each other in their haste to get there...

Or, you know: funky horse orgy, wahey!

Dagelijks Brood [Daily Bread] by Fun Fun, designer: Fun Fun --> 400,000 flowers

That bread design was moving around, check the video! (and up close in part 2)
Next up: holy...

Conclaaf by Symboliek, designer: Leon Rook --> 200,000 flowers

I love that these carts have a bit of theatre surrounding them; those cardinals gave it their all!
Next: Barbier by Hebbes, design by group & Robbert Heetebrij --> 150,000 flowers

The guys on the back of the barbershop were drinking beer, bet they loved their part best;)
The cheesemakers on the next one have it a lot harder...

Hollands Goud [Dutch Gold] by After Nero's, designers: group with Jaap Spans & Henk van der Linde --> 250,000 flowers

Love this whimsical set:
Backpacker (2 parts) by Kluitenberg, designers: Henk van der Linde & Wiljan van der Linde --> 180,000 flowers

The first back pack was "carried" by a girl, the next one by a guy, and they both were interacting with the crown, taking selfies and talking about their travels.

The details on the backpacks were awesome: from the flashlight to the patches, very cool!

Another design in multiple parts:
Ukai (3 parts) by Olympia, designers: Wiljan van der Linde & Gezienus Bruining [Ukai is a traditional fishing method which uses trained cormorants to catch river fish.] --> 350,000 flowers

Two fishermen and a bunch of birds in between, look at those flowers, so pretty.

So many birds, very impressive.
Next is another moving design... (so there's a video;)

Gnomonica by Forza, design by group & Gezienus Bruining [Gnomonics is the study of sundials.] --> 185,000 flowers

Souk by PODB c.q. De Brekers, designer: Rick van der Linden -->320,000 flowers
This one came complete with lots of theatre; an actual marketplace with customers and tourists and sellers of all sorts of things.

Beautiful details.

And then... my favorite:
Marionetten by Alliance, design by group --> 300,000 flowers
The puppets were awesome, they were presented by a couple of very pompous men who bossed around the puppeteers. the story in combination with the awesome music made me very emotional.

(There are three videos of the puppets: Seriously. So. Gorgeous.)
Next up was a loud roar:

Motor by Deurgoan, design by Gezienus Bruining --> 200,000 flowers

And the last cart already:
Reusachtig [Gigantic] by Gaos, designer: Robbert Heetebrij --> 250,000 flowers

Look at the divers in between the whales! (Two videos!:)
AND THEN... AND THEN THOSE FUCKING HORSES CAME ROUND THE CORNER AGAIN, WOOHOO!

I did not know the carts were doing a second round, so I was happily surprised; now I could put down my camera and fully enjoy the show. (And also try to capture a couple of details I missed in the first round, haha!)

Oh, those horses. <3<3
Close up of Conclaaf.

Most of my previous photos of the Barbier were blurry, so here's another one.
And I could get myself in the picture with my faaaaaaavorite Marionetten.

*chinhands and gets teary eyed all over again*

And then the parade was over, but... I snuck down an ally to take a shortcut and found it again!

I just can't get enough of this one, okay.

Then it's really over but while I make my way to the edge of the village I discover where the carts are parked for the evening parade and I have a chance to get really close to look at them in detail. So have some more photos:)

Okay, now I really say goodbye. *deep sigh*
(Behind every cart there are boys and girls following with buckets to pick up the flowers that fall from the carts)

How awesome was that? So many flowers, so many colours.

I walk out the other side of Sint Jansklooster and find the busstop nearby (only a five minute walk this time).

What an awesome afternoon!
