US Roadtrip - part 5: TX, OK & Kansas

Sep 11, 2015 11:46

Ugh, I'm really having a hard time getting used to being unemployed. Time seems to simultaneously stand still and fly by. I just don't know what to do with myself. Obviously I could have done this picspam days ago, but I lack motivation to do anything else but stare at the internets. Today is the day I'm putting an end to that. *determined face* Let's get this thing on the road again!

After being all touristy in Dallas and fangirly in Fort Worth, tmn1966 and I started on the return part of our trip with two days of driving back up North. There were not a lot of sight-stops along the way, but there was some good fangirling with: another meet up, watching episodes by way of nighttime stories AND the main event: a visit to Lawrence, Kansas. Want to come along?

Nearly same breakfast as day before, since we spent two days in this motel near Dallas. Poor selection of food though; this was all that was left and I WAS NOT THAT LATE. Still: love my American creamcheese bagel A LOT.:) We were on the road a little before 10 a.m. (how cool are those streetnames?)

I just can't get over the rollercoaster construction of the Dallas roads. We made a quick stop at Sew Let's Quilt (that we found closed yesterday) to pick up a pattern for zubeneschamali and then we were ready to head towards Oklahoma.

What? Oh nothing, just moving house. THE WHOLE FUCKING house!

Hello Oklahoma, no touristy stops in this state today, but we did hunt down a Quilt-shop in St. Moore, where we scored the third and final pattern for Z. \o/ (That was such a fun hunting addition to our roadtrip:)

We found an IHOP for lunch. (That stands for the International House Of Pancakes, but I don't think they exist outside of the USA;) I had New York cheesecake pancakes.... omnomnom.

Look at all the sirup flavors! I had to try them all. FOR SCIENCE. As is turns out Old Fashioned (maple sirup) is my faaaavorite. *licks plate*

Heehee, we look like a racecar in this reflection \o/.
Hello, KANSAS! Home of the Winchesters, oh yeah;)

I love those ridiculously long freighttrains so much *chinhands*

After a whole day of driving we ordered a meatlovers' pizza in our Wichita motelroom and snuggled together to watch two Supernatural episodes: Heart & Dead Man's Blood *sniffles & drools* ;-p
I ended my evening in the tub with my yellow bathbomb, that had a blue core which turned the water a spectacular green, woohoo.

Oh My Chuck, BEST BREAKFAST EVER: biscuits + sausagepatty + omelet + gravy = delish. Check out that bar: all the foods we had on the road so far were available. So obviously I had seconds;)

This Quality Inn motel was so very fancy with an indoor hallway and garden. But we have to get on the road again. So after yet another Supernatural (Devil's Trap;) we get going.

Sometimes it seemed like we were behind the same FedEx truck for days on end...
We're now in Amish territory, as you can tell by the name: I bought some Yoder Meat spices as a souvenir. (Chipotle mix;) I wish I'd been able to take a photo of the roadsigns that warn for crossing horsecarriages, so quaint.

Another fangirl meet up at noon! We had a Japanese lunch with bt_kady, who shared her Crab Rangoon with me. I also had soup and Udon Noodles with beef. Both K and T were wearing the Moose & Squirrel shirt, heehee.
We got back on the road around 1:30 p.m. for the final fangirl destination....

Ahw, we weren't allowed to keep this toll-road ticket, but look at all the exits that lead to our goal: the birthplace of Sam and Dean Winchester. Dundundunnn.

Just one of the many photos I took of city signs :-p and there it is: Lawrence, Kansas.

First stop: Stull Cemetary, where a memorable fight between our Winchesters takes place, it's actually farther away from Lawrence than Dean said it was. But we totally found it, ha! *fangirl achievement unlocked*

Tadaah! Too bad we arrived in the downtown area just after all the shops closed. Still made some cool photos;)

See that city in the distance? That's Kansas City, which despite being the capital of Kansas its name, is right on the border with....

.... Missouri! Hey, is that the FedEx truck again?

Who wants to advertise in the middle of nowhere? After another long day of driving we're too tired for dinner, so it's a quick meal from our backseat provisions instead:) DRAGONBALLS, BB.

I once again end my night in the tub, this time with a bubblegum bubblebath. (I am so so so very grateful to tmn1966 for giving me all those awesome bathgoodies, the whole roadtrip was a very luxurious experience;)

Next up we're getting back on Route 66!! --> part 6: KS, MO & Springfield, IL

part 1: Amsterdam to Ohio | part 2: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois
