Big Bang: sources for artwork

Jul 18, 2010 14:12

Maybe I'll do a big explanation or tutorial on my BigBang artwork later; I had so many ideas and I'm sure I hid some of them too well in the finished pieces *grins*.

I found it to be impossible to mention all the sources I used, simply because I already had an archive of pictures for my own personal pleasure;) and also because during my frantic Google-searches I sometimes forget to keep track. If you notice original material that you are the owner of or know the origin of, tell me and I will credit.
For now I would like to thank the following:
Sources and helpful sites
For all my SPN_J2 BigBang artwork I of course needed pictures of the wonderful Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and additional CW-actors. Here are my favorite sites:
  • Provocateuse
  • Oxoniensis Screencaps
  • Love-Jensen.COM
  • J-Padalecki.ORG

For Grimoire by yasmine32068 - Artpost here!
Did you know? A Grimoire is a textbook of magic:) Artist/author Leigh J. MsCloskey made a gorgeous visual essay; I used a page of his artwork as a base.
I had wanted to use my own New Orleans pictures from 1994, but couldn't get rid of me and my brother posing in The French Quarter *grins*, so I had to resort to other people's travelblogs and New Orleans promotional sites:
French Quarter: by jrgts on flickr - via forum on SkyScraperCity
The interior of bookstore Elliot Bay (in Seattle!) is taken from The Kids Book Corner - a site you should definitely check out!
    Wings: by Psyche743 on Aviary
Trolley: by Christopher on Picasa. I sneakily changed the advertisement on the side to a promotional picture of The Accidental Husband to get JDM in there (However, he does NOT feature in the story;)
Original characters: standing in for Theodora and Adam Brady are Don DeLillo and Doris Kearns Goodwin, two winners of the 2009 Common Wealth Awards

For my design of magical creature Brownie I used too many different images to mention (start with a search for "doodshoofdaapje") - let me just assure you no animals (or people;) were hurt in creating the picture;) If you can guess who provided the mouth, you get the original fanphoto.
Thankfully I did bookmark the site that shared the delicious pictures -and recipes- of the plate of biscuits (and the cinnamon bun) because I need to make these!

The dandelions were photographed by me:)

For Real Life: Good For You by octoberxsong - Artpost here!
To illustrate this story I visited a lot of World of Warcraft sites to get into Jared's mindset. The most valuable information was given to me by octobersong, but I also want to credit The WoW-wiki for visuals. The base of the banner is a screenshot from Tinker Town (I think *bites lip*) and for Chad I (ab)used an red haired Gnome.
The picture from Christian Kane was taken from Starpulse and I found Genevieve on a forum of GenevieveCorteseFan.COM
I build the logo for the story -and the divider- from an original WoW logo.
The additional artwork with Jensen is based on a WoW-wallpaper design.

My co-worker S. kindly posed as Jared and I used part of his body to complete the banner. (I won't tell you which part though;)

The photo of the flowers and grass Jared is rolling around in was made by me! (notice a pattern, people?)

For I Know What A Prince And Lover Ought To Be by amanuan - Artpost here!
When I read this story, set in an AU medieval times, I immediately wanted to reflect that era in my art. I thought of those beautifully decorated medieval books and looked at a lot of them for inspiration. Do a search on Google to see some glorious examples!

For the base I used a contemporary book out of my own collection: the huge XXL about Tom of Finland:)

Parchment for book and map from Andrew C. and Przemyslaw Szczepanski via Stock.Xchng.

The pebbles were taken out of a photo by me. The grass is also mine *g*

There are two castles in the banner; the one behind the text is the citywall in my hometown Zwolle, the other is part of a picture taken from AvocadoTravel.COM; it's Corvinesti Castle in Hunedoara, Romania. (I still have to cross that country off my travel-list; I only made it just across the border in 1995, when two Irish girls I met on the train were refused entry to the country and not wanting to be the only backpacker left, I decided to travel with them - back to Greece. We were forced to get off the train and walk back to the border, from where we hitchhiked to Tessaloniki. Exciting times;)

The map of the kingdoms was drawn by me with coloured pencils and then fiddled with in Photoshop. The compass is mine.

For the kids I used Supernatural Sam and Dean's heads and I put them on the bodies of two boys fighting at a medieval fair on a photo from Sarah via Picasa Webalbums. I kind of broke their arms to make them hold the stick (mine) and handkerchief (mine). Sorry, kids.

The trees in the background are from a photo by me.

Adult Jared and Jensen did pose in front of a ruin, but I dressed them up in knight outfits from Costumes of Nashua.

The horse, rocks and crowns were drawn by me. *takes a bow*
