Green Quilt

Those of you who follow me on twitter will know that I promised a blog post about why I was so happy about a picture of a bed with a patchwork quilt on it.

While we were homeless last year and this, I spent a lot of time wondering about my new home. What would it be like? What colours would we paint it? All those things. I have a notebook full of things that morphed from dreams to reality - measurements, sketches for furniture placement..... that kind of thing. We bid on all kinds of houses, newer ones, older ones, bungalows.

Something else was also happening. My mum and her lovely partner decided to move in together. So my brother and I went to spend a weekend with Mum and help her sort out a few things, including a number of itmes which Mum wanted to know if either of us wanted. Amongst those things was a green and white log cabin patchwork quilt that my Mum made up several years ago. We've slept under it many times at her previous home. It became a race against time - would my Mum move before we did, would we have to find somwehere to store everything she was giving us (which included a sofa bed and an armchair) and in the middle of it all was the green quilt. From the time I knew it was going to be mine, my thoughts about decorating the main bedroom of our yearned for house circled around this quilt. I like green; it is very restful. I am fairly restless. I love handmade things as well, and handmade + mamamade = happy Bees.

So that quilt is now on my bed for the first time. In the house I didn't dream of because we got so desparate.

And it makes me very calm and happy.
It also makes me know that we are home.
I can live with that ;)
