5 The French (mainly, just cause I think it would be fun to hear you talk about the French, possibly. Be interesting, be interesting!)
Oh my! Well, I guess this serves me right for asking someone I don't know......................................!
1. England.
Well, I live there for starters. But I only identify myself as English if speaking to someone from within the UK. Otherwise I generally say I'm British. England as a land is a wonderful place, full of originality, beauty and interest. England as a nation makes me think of football louts and cheap St. George's flags. It's a place of cheap beer, loudly pronounced prejudice and anti-social behaviour. It makes me sad that people think of England as that.... our public image isn't great I don't feel.
I live in an English city (and by that I mean it has a Cathedral and a Bishop - a city in the truest sense of the word) which is annoying and insular and quirky but also proud and beautiful and unusual. It is sad to me that more people from the UK don't holiday IN the UK because there are many delights in all parts of it. My particular favourites would have to be the North-East of England (obviously, it being my homeland and all) where the landscapes can be very barren and harsh, to the rolling undulations of Leicestershire where I grew up. Not many people recognise that Leicestershire is actually a very gentle and beautiful county. We are a mongrel land and personally I have no problem with that at all, I think it adds to our richness. If people could admit that possibility, some of that nation image I have in my head might be dissapated.
2. Bees.
I often get asked if I keep bees. I don't. I like bees, they are very interesting and important creatures. I love honey and am glad bees know how to make it. There are studies of bees that I remember reading about in my psychology lectures - about how bees communicate and things like that. I always wonder if bees feel as soft as they look. They look soft and fluffy. I have a lot of bees - people buy me bee things a lot now. I am a little bit scared of bees though too..in case they sting me. I don't like to be stung.
3. Anglicanism.
Ok, so this might turn into a rant. *L*
I am not an anglican. I will not be an anglican as long as i have anything to do with it. I have attended and on occasion preached in an anglican church, but I am NOT an anglican. I am a Methodist. Contrary to popular misbelief, they are NOT the same thing. There may be similarities, there may be covenants and conversations, but as far as I know those two churches are far from married yet. Part of the point of being a Methodist is that you're NOT an anglican, that was how it all started.
As individuals I don't have a lot of problems with anglicans really - I'm married to one after all - but as an institution I feel the Anglican church is completely off beam on a lot of things. Technically my DH is employed by the good old CofE, and within that auspice has been royally shafted far more than should be acceptable for a church to do to anyone. As a collective institution I do not trust them as far as I can chuck them.
As a historical construct of course, Anglicanism is an interesting thing because it was caused by a Monarch and so carried even more power than it does now. My facts on this aren't completely straight, which is why I'm going to be careful what I say. In that sense it is a creation of whim, which makes me laugh a bit really.
4. Children.
I have one.
She is very beautiful and funny and small.
She eats cheese bread, vegetable fingers, bananas, and most other things she can pick up and hold.
My children have come to me late, and not all of them are with me for whatever reason that might be. I like children very much, I think they are interesting and insightful and grown ups should listen to them more. I have one of my own, three godchildren, a niece and two nephews. I am likely to dissolve into a gibbering mommy mess if I say too much more on this topic.
5. The French.
Why? Rev. Brown, why?! I know very little about the French. I have been to France twice but both trips were a very long time ago. They make nice bread and I went to my first nightclub in France... My friends partner is French.
I'm sorry I'm not interesting!
