Weddings....or not....or whatever....

There's something a little ironic about Northern Ireland being the first place in the UK where gay and lesbian couples can have a civil partnership registration ceremony, but I wanted to make a place that commemorates today's historic events.
Do I think it denegrates "proper" marriage? No, not at all. In some ways I feel that it affirms it as this is being modelled after the traditional legal concepts behind marriage.  People making commitments to one another seems to be a rarer and rarer thing these days and so I find this encouraging. I'm beyond the stage in my life where I am particularly bothered who someone is making that commitment to, if they are mutually happy and that's their decision, I think it's wonderful.  Is it the same? No, not technically I guess. I hope that it makes a lot of things easier for a lot of people who have had a lot of problems. The stories regarding the lack of rights held by same sex partners are heart-breaking and the fact that people you love can be protected from that hurt in some way is a good thing. I don't have any problem with it, personally. I know that mileage may vary between my readers but that's ok.

Life has felt gloomy in the world recently, wedding pictures always make life better :)
