I love how real and tangible this world is, and how there are indeed consequences, and choices to be made, and I really enjoy all these people around them. Usually we have Esca and Marcus in this sort of bubble.
This is a really wonderful fic which I am obscenely pleased to read each new chapter of.

Wonderful - I loved all the Italian food and poor Esca being assaulted by all these new tastes and sensations.

And then you broke my heart at the end when Esca found he could weep for Marcus but not for his parents... *sobs*
