There are 3 primary reasons I've not been writing much at all: 1, a long, busy vacation. 2, another bout of flu after the vacation. 3, I've had a project to complete...
Enter. If ye dare!
We live in a beige box. I am slowing beginning to un-beige it, starting with my 3-yr old daughter's room. However, we're on a strict budget until we've paid for the vacation.
Tree!
I bought £10-worth of paint tester pots in bright colours, then spent all weekend mixing paints, then painting the walls and ceiling freehand. I had an idea of what I was going to do and Bee asked for "White fluffy clouds" (I wouldn't have painted the ceiling otherwise. Ugh) but made it up as I went.
During the week we had made paper birds and an owl to live in the tree, a mummy and baby dragonfly,
and ladybirds to climb up the flowers towards Bee's clock.
Bee kept wanting to help with painting. Once she got bored decorating a completed flower, she decided to start on a wall with her fingers and some red paint she found while I was busy painting clouds. This is how the "Hearts and Hands" bush was started:
The shrooms are there to provide context to a junk shop table that I painted for Bee's room two years back, which everyone calls 'the spotty table' when it's clearly meant to be a fly agaric toadstool:
With the furniture back in place:
The ceiling's completely sky/cloud-covered, and has glow in the dark stars hidden here and there. The glowing light's a green Ikea bug lamp (all furnishings were what we had before). Everything's due to shift around next weekend, though, as I scored a secondhand
awesome kids' bed with lower den area for £10 on eBay this morning :D Next project (after finishing Grinto and a K/S one shot I'm halfway through) will be to sew curtains for under the bed to create a Bee cave.
I do not recommend painting ceilings with nothing but a bucket of watered down paint and a rag. Ow.
