I’m not sure if this will help but, I read a paper the other day that I thought you might like (as I know you’re interested in the internet as a social phenomena). It was about the internet as a new alternative social space for activists to gather. I will see if I can find it in this pile of junk on my desk... or was it a PDF? Hrmm I will look. At any rate, it was not a new idea, but it was about the net as a social space as opposed to the traditional thought of the net as nothing more then a technological tool. It’s about Critical Mass a biking/alternative transportation movement organized by word of mouth and/or over the net, with no formal agenda or leadership. I'm sure you have heard of it. The idea is that Critical Mass is a social organization with no organization, no particular location (as they are always in motion), and with no single unified agenda (each group of critical mass is different).
The article was called: “Critical mass: forging a politics of sustainable mobility in the information age”. SUSAN BLICKSTEIN.
It is short and very easy to read, about a 100 level reading. But you know what 'they' say; "Clear writing is a sign of clear thinking".
