Roller Dolls

The Beeblebox household is heading full speed towards the 21st century. We now have the internet at home which is very exciting because as I type this I am also watching CSI (it is possible to only give it 20% of my attention and still work out who the killer is) I love modern technology.

Last Sunday night I went to watch Roller Derby, a sport that I didn’t even know existed until last Saturday. Some friends asked if I wanted to go and, although still not 100% sure of what a Roller Derby involved, with Mr. Beeblebox being in Switzerland and Doomblaster busy keeping the toy mouse population under control, I put my The Wire watching marathon on hold and agreed. It turns out it involves a load of girls roller skating round a rink kicking each other’s asses. It is without doubt the most entertaining sport that has ever existed and it just oozes with coolness. I will leave it to the good people at Wikipedia to fill in the details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roller_derby

When asked if I would like to take part I declined saying that I would not be able to make the training (five times a week as a team plus training in your own time) but the truth is that I am just not tough enough. Those girls can get badly hurt. Plus I am not mean enough. Or cool enough. I like to think that somewhere there is a Sliderstyle alternative reality where I am a Roller Derby champion but in this one I am just going to have to admire the skaters and their indie coolness from the sidelines.
