Borrowed from Others

The problem with LJ: we all think we are so close, but really, we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. Ask away.

Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

What brought you to LiveJournal? :)

A lot of my friends talk about LiveJournal all the time. I'm also helping a friend of mine write an SGA fanfiction right now...and I thought maybe there were other things out there I could work on as well :) Broaden my horizons a bit haha.

Got it!

What kinds of other things are you interested in doing? And what characters/pairings do you like?

I'm a HUGE Lorne fan lol. Like...ridiculously so :) I was also fond of the Teyla/Sheppard pairing in SGA.

In SG1...I really liked Vala and Daniel together haha. They were amazing. And one I wanted to see was Sam and Cameron :) Didn't really take though.

In SGU the only one I really liked was Eli and Chloe. Wanted more there.

What about you?

I came to LJ in search of John/Cam, and eventually found it. So that's been my main Stargate pairing.

I also like Sam/Cam and Cam/Carolyn (and I wish there were more of both!), and I will sometimes go through phases of reading John/Teyla or John/Elizabeth or Cam/Vala. And when I can find it, I'll read John/Vala, and I once read a John/Sam story I really liked, but those have to be set up just right. And there are a few John/Lorne fics I like, though mostly the chain-of-command stuff gets in the way for me. And way back when I was a Sam/Jack fan, though I haven't watched the early seasons recently enough to feel strongly about that now.

And then in SGU, I like Greer/Park and Chloe/Scott, but I really need to rewatch the whole show and that might change my perceptions. But mostly I stick to canon pairings there.

So yeah, I'm a bit of a multi-shipper. I pretty much tend to ship all of my favourite characters with each other in various combinations.

Hey to each their own ;) I just have my favourites. I've read a lot of others though. Don't mind some of them, but the ones I listed are the ones I definitely prefer! I wish we could have seen more of Carolyn. She was awesome!! I agree with the military pairings...it gets hard with the whole chain of command thing.

Oh and as to what I would like...I think at the moment I should stick with writing. I'm not great at it...but want to get better. I'm not artistic enough to do the photoshop and the videos and such...yet.

Landcomms like stargateland are a good place to gain experience doing other things, because it's participation and not quality that counts. So don't let not being good at graphics stop you from making things like icons. If you're really not sure what you're doing, you can always ask your team or Google for tutorials. Lots of 'em out there.

If you're interested in non-land comm stuff, maybe go check out the Fall Fandom Free-For-All because that's a nice, low stress way to make something for someone and maybe get something you want in return. :)

Unsolicited advice, I know. But if you're new to LJ, it can be hard to find your way around at first. You're free (of course!) to ignore anything I saw about these things. :D

Oh no I'm fine with that! I'm still trying to get the hang of it as it is haha...so any advice you feel like bestowing on me...feel free! :D

Other advice then...

SGA and SG-1 both run regular newsletters and SGA has an announcement board. Those are all good comms to watch if you're interested in keeping up with what's happening in those fandoms on LJ.

sga_newsletter
sga_noticeboard
sg1_debrief

I think the most active SGU comm right now is sgu_destiny.

You might also be interested in stargateficrec if you're interested in reading fic. And there are various communities for characters and pairings.

The other big activity in SGA fandom right now is sign-ups for sga_santa, which is the annual holiday fic exchange. If you want to participate, I recommend reading the rules and reading through some of the existing sign-ups to get an idea of how it works. There will probably be lots of other holiday exchanges coming too, so be warned now. The really, really big one is yuletide, which is for really tiny fandoms (Stargate obviously isn't included!) and which you will hear about incessantly on LJ for most of December.

And that's probably enough stuff for tonight. XD
