Jeeves and Wooster in Kansas - Notes and Such

Oct 08, 2009 22:44

Livejournal was being something of a b~~~~ and wouldn't let me post all of this in one go, so here are the pictures and other random notes that I had intended to go at the end of the chapter.

Here’s an old photo of the Capitol Building, although I don’t think it’s from the twenties. I went there on a field trip when I was a wee Beeb, and pretty much had a panic attack once I was in the dome. Fun times.

Also, here’s the inspiration for the hideous sunflower tie mentioned in the story. I, uh, don’t really know how to tie a tie.

Anyhow, this probably wasn’t historically accurate by any stretch of the imagination. Most information was gathered from Wikipedia, http://www.kshs.org/index.htm, and word of mouth.

Also, Kansas really did boast the “world’s largest ball of twine.” It wasn’t actually made until around 1953, but seemed like too much fun to leave out. So, I fiddled with time a bit.

Originally, this chapter was going to contain a crazy subplot involving Al Capone and midnight police raids on speakeasies, but after a while it just didn’t seem feasible.

That, and I’m lazy. :P
