Where do I find......?
This past weekend, I met up with a few friends to see another of our friends who was acting in a recently opened play. The theater company he's involved with is the classic poorly funded, trying to break into the scene while still producing innovative plays type, so I figured this play wouldn't be in the swankiest theater. I was right.
We headed up to the neighborhood and drove right past the theater because, well, we weren't looking for a storefront and that's what it turned out to be. We were all starving but only had about 40 minutes before the play started, so we checked out the few restaurants clustered around the very sketchy train stop. After being hit up for money twice, discovering that three restaurants were closed and the Irish pub didn't serve food, and deciding against the Indian place that really did look as bacteria-ridden as we'd been warned it was, we were approached by two somewhat-legit looking women. The following conversation ensued:
Woman: Are you guys looking for some place to eat?
Me: Yeah, do you know anywhere around here?
Woman: The Italian place across the road is pretty good and pretty affordable.
Me: What about speed?
Woman: Hmm...that I don't know about. Oh wait, you meant how fast is the restaurant. That I'm not sure about either.
Me: (dead silence/utter shock)
That right there kind of describes the neighborhood.
