First, REM breaks up, and now
Sonic Youth?
One of punk's top couples - Thurston and Kim- have separated, and with them, the band is uncertain.
I get it, and with no doubt, everyone will likely go on to other things, but as a music fan, it sucks. Sonic Youth, unlike a lot of bands going on 30 years, are still making music as good as anyone with access to recording equipment.
In other alt-rock news, Tom Morello is now in the
comics business. Review forthcoming.
Billy Corgan is going into the
wrestling business. Ok, so Bob Mould spent a
couple years working for WCW, but Corgan is starting a new promotion.
Corgan has done some stuff with TNA- recording theme songs and showing up backstage and at events- and he's a bonafide wrestling fan. Still, I don't know if he has better ideas than
Better Wrestling through Better Theme Songs. Hopefully, he does.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about the futures of Sonic Youth, Corgan Wrestling, or even that unpaid water bill, Harold Camping (remember him) says the World is
definitely going to end on Friday, October 21.
