Okay, so, for the last few days I've been trying to draw and it just has not been happening (I blame a resurgence of family drama). So I've been muscling through, wasting time in various ways, distracting myself, and trying to get past this block. Let me tell you these lovely ways!
Meet Tachihara and Hamada!!! Yosuke's horrible pre-Inaba pals and one of the few OCs I not only tolerate, but adore to a silly degree and have sadly misrepresented here as pasty white kids. I BLAME MY ART BLOCK. >> One day, Ashlea, one day I will draw the piece I envisioned when I bugged you for their descriptions. Today is not that day.
I gave Tachihara headphones because I could not get the concept of Style Poaching out of my head. I don't know if any of you have spent prolonged periods of time with hipsters as I have (studying and hopefully not becoming...although I may have already started to turn, how should I know?), but they are BRUTAL when it comes to their signatures. And even worse than that, they're passive aggressive about it. My roommates dragged me to a baseball game with some other girls from our floor. One from another room was wearing a peasant dress with colored tights and big boots over them with her hair down in this beach-curl (a look my roommate sports daily). The aformentioned roommate complimented her on it CONSTANTLY throughout the entire game. This is what we proceeded to talk about once we got back to our apartment. It's pretty much verbatim -- I've got a steel trap memory.
Roommate 1: THAT BITCH!!!
Me & Roommate 2: Huh?? What happened??
R1: Did you see [name removed to protect myself from the unlikely chance my roommates would ever stumble upon my font of gay fanstuffs]?? Those were my boots. Those were my actual boots, from the same place.
R2: I'm sure they're not the same boots.
R1: I don't know how she got them because I got mine from a boutique in San Francisco. She's from Jersey. She shouldn't even be doing her hair that way. [I don't know what this means either]
Me: Maybe she's complimenting you?
R1: IT'S JUST I TRY SO HARD TO STAND OUT IN THIS STUPID SCHOOL AND THEN SOMEONE COMES AND STEALS YOUR IDENTITY LIKE THAT, IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.
Me & R2: *cue us comforting her and telling her she looks so much better in it and that the only reason we didn't say anything was because we assumed R1 was okay with it. Keeping in mind that this is the first month of school and there's no way The Other Girl would've had time to steal R1's style so cruelly. I'm not shitting you on ANY of this. R1 was near tears. Hipsters are crazy*
So yes. The idea of Yosuke inadvertently style poaching was a scenario too close to home for me to ignore. :/
AND NOW, for a time-wasting meme that I Promised The Girlfriend I'd Do A Long Time Ago And Have Yet To Do So I Should Probably Get On That. :D
Your main fandom of the year?
Persona 4, WITHOUT QUESTION. In fact, right about now is when I was in California, still high off the buzz of finishing P4 at rapid speed mere hours before we were due on a plane. It was later that we found out about this elusive thing called the 'True Ending', but that is a story for another meme.
Your favorite film watched this year?
They all sort of blur after a while...but, um, liked Milk. OH, and The Fall was great, in an "Oh my god, the world is an ironically bleak and tragic place" sort of way.
Your favorite book read this year?
My Art Matters (a class which, coincidentally, won the coveted Most Bizarre Course Name Of The Year award) text book? I guess?
Your favorite album or song to listen to this year?
According to my iTunes, it's Signs by Bloc Party. Apparently I was having a depressing year (that, or I just read strangest quiet's brilliant P4 doujinshi too many times, Both are valid).
Your favorite LJ comm of the year?
marukyurevue .
aroundight has the dedication of a saint. Even if the quality of BBBH is plummiting like a rock, I can always count on her to make me smile through my tears of shock and horror!
Your best new fandom discovery of the year?
Um...I discovered anime doesn't suck to the extreme degree I used to claim it did? I still don't get most of it, but hey! There's some well drawn stuff out there that never deserved my elitist poo-pooing.
Your biggest fandom disappointment of the year?
'The Last Airbender'. Enough said.
Your TV boyfriend of the year?
Bret McKenzie from Flight of the Conchords. I am indeed needy for a weedy shy guy, Bret. [keeping goifs answer for this one]
Your TV girlfriend of the year?
Man, I really wished I watched some TV this year. But if by "this year" you mean "last year but probably would still be this year if the show would come off hiatus and she hadn't (spoiler alert) died", Juliet from Lost. She's blonde, white as flour, and totally not my type -- but that sexy authority was all I needed, bb.
Your biggest squee moment of the year?
Pretty much my entire first playthrough of Persona 4. That...was essentially a consistent stream of squees. [also keeping goifs answer for this one]
The most missed of your old fandoms?
The Beatles fandom was fun in like, 2006 and 2007, but by the time I left it I was kind of eager to get away from the rapidly-emerging drama. So I wouldn't say I miss it but I do get nostalgic about how it was ~BACK IN TEH DAY~ [again, keeping her answer. I'M NOT LAZY).
The fandom you haven't tried yet, but want to?
Ha, I took one peak at the South Park fandom out of perverse curiosity and some weird desire to see if it was good so I could start reveling in it secretly. Then I ran away. Far and fast. That kind of reverses the question, but WHATEVER MEME YOU DON'T OWN ME.
Your biggest fan anticipations for the New Year?
That 2010 will occur and I will still be drawing and writing in it (three parts of that have already come true!!! HURRAH!!!)
