UGH I wrote this for 31_days and MISSED THE DAY I WAS SUPPOSED TO PUT IT UP ON. I am so smart sometimes I stun myself, for real.

Komui doesn’t rest well when his sister is away on missions. It comes of her being in such danger, of course; an exorcist does not lead a safe or an easy life. Lenalee’s life is not a safe one. She’s a friend to Allen Walker, after all, who is under the special attention of the Earl and the Family of Noah and is just a hell of a risk-taker when he only behaves like his own damn self.
It comes of being apart for such a long time. Years of loneliness; Lenalee wandering the halls of headquarters like a young ghost, looking for a brother who wasn’t there.
They’re always first on each other’s minds. All those years where there was really no one else to rely on has engrained it as habit; they are not tame siblings, they are wild creatures, they can take care of themselves and each other. Two halves of a home.
He likes to work with her close at hand, listening to her gentle breaths, regular as the ticking of a clock, counting the hours away. The late and lonely unsung hours, and Komui will raise his hand to hers, then, press his fingers against her narrower palm, taking a ghost of her heat and doling out some of his. Little battles fought and overcome, the parts of the war that have nothing to do with Akuma even if they’re still vital to the soul.
Whatever happens to the world, this is a battle that they two have won.
