First of all, I am completely incoherant. This was disturbing, and intricate and beautiful and the first couple paragraphs were just....skjgfnadksjgn. And, god the sex scene was perfect. And everything was so believable, so perfect...It made them seem so painfully human, no matter how deranged they are. And the dialogue was great. Hidan's vision was just so spooky and wonderful. That last conversation was just SO them. I'm overwhelmed...♥♥♥
Hidan rolled over, and cupped his arm tenderly to his chest. His face and his unburned hand were shortly soaked, with seeping tears, with frantically running body fluids. His heart hammering and the corners of his smile twitching into a grimace of agony, but Kakuzu can see that he is smiling.
AGH, so so perfect. How do you do this?

TuT I'm so glad you like this, even though it took like... half a year, seriously. It was so many things before it became this too, and it's such a relief to know that you like the final product! It was hard but really fun to write, and those two just have such a great, fabulously antagonistic dynamic.
It used to really agitate me that they got so little screentime or background info during the series proper but now I think I'm happier with that, because their pasts are blank canvas and it's just SO interesting to mess around with them.

You write the most wonderfully, literary, beautiful Kakuzu/Hidan. I love all of this- glimpses into Hidan's backstory, the fantastic descriptions of the maskbabies, the bit WITH THE FIRE OMG, and, and, and everything. ♥

Thanks so much, you basically picked up on the little things I had so much fun writing about. These guys are so weird, and their pasts are big empty sandboxes for writers to play in. Thus their early deaths agitate me a little less because of that.
Coming up with original Hidan abuse is always fun. 8) I've always wondered how Kakuzu's threads really work though... I mean, when he sews Hidan's head back on is it all okay because of the POWER OF LOVE? Does he sew up the throat again too? What about the spinal cord, how does Hidan control his limbs? YOU CAN'T JUST PLUNK SOMEBODY'S HEAD BACK ON AND MAKE EVERYTHING OKAY WITH NINJA MAJIC, KISHIMOTO. I DEMAND EXPLANATIONS. D:<
Aha ha, Kakuzu always has to snipe at Hidan at every opportunity. He's just not Kakuzu if he doesn't. I think that's part of why I loved these guys so much when they appeared in the series. They're not just bad, they're funny.

I suddenly hope that Kakuzu does sew up his spinal cord, and that every time Hidan mouths off, he wiggles his threads and makes him dance.

It is so good to know the details have that affect... I love villains, but do not love it when they are unnecessarily softened up. So glad that it all works together! I would like to write more villain-and-hero fic someday, because there is something darkly compelling about Kakuzu and Hidan for me.

This is lovely! You even gave an explanation for Kakuzu's masks and a glisp into Hidan's back story.
I love your characterization of them. Most people make it a one-side argument with Hidan doing all the insulting; but it's not, it goes both ways.
That whole last scene was my favorite cause it really just pulls it all together. Good job!

Lol, I can't imagine not writing a Kakuzu who can hold his own against Hidan. I actually think of him as wittier than Hidan by a factor of oh, maybe ten? He's just much drier about it, while Hidan is simply a spaz.

Just wanted to say that I've never read a fic where BOTH Kakuzu and Hidan would be so IC as they are in yours. Actually, somehow they feel more like themselves than they did in manga ;). You brought out all that's inhuman and uncanny about them, and you did it so explicitly and convincingly that it's almost unbearable.
I'm really impressed how honest and uncompromising you are about these characters. You don't try to "soften" them, make them more human. It's true we know so little about them that spectrum of acceptable interpretations is rather wide, but most of these interpretations, including mine, are somehow flawed by fangirlism and wishful thinking. There's no trace of it in your fic. No improbable fluff, no sentimentalism. Your story is so harsh at times, that it's hard to read it. But it's so sophisticated and intricate that you just cannot not to read it.
And your conception of Kakuzu's character is just brilliant! &hearts Seriously, the best I've ever ( ... )

Anyway, I'm so glad these guys are in character, because sometimes I love me some softened-up Kakuzu and Hidan but it's hard for me to write them that way. The one I really have to struggle with is Kakuzu, because he seems more plausible "humanized" to me - Hidan just enjoys what he is too much. Whereas Kakuzu, well... I was reading the Zombie Combi arc again last night and he seems so melancholy sometimes. I pretty much have a running Hidan-monologue on tap but Kakuzu, I have to reach deeper.
They are harsh though... I don't know. Predator Hidan is my favorite type of Hidan. When he's enjoying himself. They're both so feral-seeming to me, in different ways. That's why I love them. <3 ( ... )
