You know what makes me really, tragically upset?
When I see amazing lineart totally ruined by a terrible coloring job. I mean, yeah, I'm not exactly the best colorer out there and my lineart is, uh, special, to say the least, but I have diverse styles for diverse types of drawing, and AGGHHH
Some artists may be incredible, but they just- don't seem to be able to handle color!! AND THAT IS OKAY
JUST
FIND SOMEBODY THAT CAN AND PARTNER UP WITH 'EM!!!
Seriously, it just ruins a wispy, thin, delicate piece of lineart if the coloring is heavy and thick, and PEOPLE- color. Color. Certain colors in certain shades just. Just. DO NOT. Go together. EVER. Like? DARK CRIMSON AND LIME GREEN. I could probably make it work, and the people reading this could, but- if you can't? DO NOT WANT.
I came across a piece of art in somebody's gallery today that I found enormously impressive, and they were all, "click here for the colored version =DDDD". So, naturally, I did, and- ;-; is all I can say.
If you're going for a near-surreal scene in smoke, here are a few protips: Opacity. It was developed for a reason. Use it. Hair, also? Unless you're going for a certain style (which this person certainly wasn't, judging from her lineart), it's going to have some shading. Yes, even black hair. People's heads with black hair on them aren't just BLACK HOLES OF LIGHT111.
Having said that, I can also safely say that I suck ass at art and yeah, yeah. Bwa. I sound super big-headed. But it just frustrated me so much to see an incredible piece of art literally ruined by the artist's coloring job. I would chalk it up to still learning, gaining experience, etc., but the artist seemed perfectly content, judging from her comments about the piece, with the job she had done.

::note:: This is in NO WAY directed to anybody on my flist. Just wanted to make that clear, since I finished writing this and went, "....ohay...."
