MY SUMMER VACATION BY JENNY

me: gee, harryhausen's skeletons have got some anterior head carriage!

matt: yeah, and really mean eyebrows.

i have been devoured by mosquitoes on two memorable occasions this summer. the first was in lake oswego, watching picturepack's moving pictures on a screen in a backyard, quite barelegged and happily sipping wine under the moon. (firecrackers!)
the second was en route to a beach to bathe nudely, with old pot-bellied men, proudly sporting nothing at all, and lovely shameless kiddos, butts winking in the sun. mosquitoes have pegged the paths to the clothing optional beaches as prime feeding grounds, and there was much ducking and swatting and cursing to be had. serves us right. ought to keep them nipples under wraps!

lessons with sammy lind are great! he's got a nice airy living room, surrounded by fiddles, banjos, mandolins. we start out playing in unison on fiddle, then once i've got the basic pattern down, he switches to guitar and plays chords while i work out the fiddle mechanics. then he picks up the fiddle again and does the lower octave, throwing in variations. BEST. PRIVATE. LESSONS. EVER.

friday night, we (anna, craig & i) drive out to the coast to stay one night with my grandparents, one night camped by the beach just south of coos bay. last time i was there, hiking was grand up on the cliffs winding around the lagoons, but the sun was going down. this time, i hope to get there early enough to hike south as far as cape arago and back by the time it gets dark. then there will be much boasting and drinking by the campfire until the wee hours. can't wait!
