Chicken and Rice

Sophie's been sick the last couple days. I think she ate something not-so-good for her over the weekend because she woke up at 2:00am Monday morning, leapt off my bed, and proceeded to gag and vomit on the rug like a champ! I took her outside...where she proceeded to munch on some grass -- which, in turn, made her throw up some more about two hours later, creating a pile of wet grass mush in the middle of my hallway (I cleaned it up that same night, but had to mix an OxiClean solution to get the mild grass stains out the next day).

As a result, I've been cooking her meals -- something mild to settle her tummy and that's easy for her system to process. In the past, when she's gotten sick, her vet has always prescribed boiled chicken and rice, and so I've been cooking chicken and rice everyday the last week (hey, it can't be OLD chicken and rice...that defeats the purpose). While I am slaving away over the hot stove, Sophie's been thrilled to have the diet change: every morning when I'm cutting up the chicken, she waits patiently for her breakfast...and when I get home in the evenings, she practically leads me into the kitchen.

She's getting better, so tomorrow, I'll be gradually reintroducing her regular dog food into the chicken and rice mixture...

In other news, I bought new running shoes, because when I emailed my friend Gloria a photo of the tread on my current ones, she informed me, "Those are only good for cleaning the house...or maybe walking your dog."

They are the same exact style of the ones I have now, but they are in a different color (my old ones were gray and white, these are gray and "raspberry"):

They should last awhile, because the ones I have now have lasted about a year (but that's with not so much of the working out or physical activity, of course). I got a good deal on them -- $54 and no tax, from Amazon...and they were the last ones in my size. I am hoping the raspberry part of the color scheme isn't as bright as it looks in the photo because I am not a fan of pink or purple on women's running shoes -- it just LOOKS like I'm trying way too hard to be feminine!
