I got my bridesmaid gown (for Judy's upcoming wedding on the 27th of this month -- eeek!) on Saturday. Judy dropped it off at my house, and I tried it on later on in the afternoon, but didn't think much of the try-on because it was hard to do so in the warm weather we were having on Saturday.
I brought the gown into my seamstress/dressmaker today. I AM SWIMMING IN THE GOWN! I gave Judy my measurements way back in the summer when I was slightly heavier, but I've only lost about 12 pounds. I don't think it should make that drastic a difference. The top part of the gown, I had to hold up, otherwise it would slide down and my strapless bra would be exposed. The seamstress had to pin it down along the sides, and she was saying in her Korean-accented English, "This dress about four size too big for you...I take in about 3-5 inch all around!"
I think my measurements have gone down, for sure, but definitely not by that much. I think the dress sizing ran a lot bigger than the salespeople had let on when Judy ordered the dress. It's always amazing for me to find a dress that makes me SWIM in it, for sure. The seamstress (her name is Oak), pinned me tightly into the gown, enough to where I said, "Um, can you make sure I'll be able to breathe and eat on the day of?"
She replied with, "You on diet?"
"Always!" I said...and she pulled the dress a little tighter. You know, enough to make me teeter a little where I was standing.
"Better to have tighter, then dress fit perfect on day of wedding!" she informed me.
Here's what the dress looks like, except ours are a deep brown with a pink sash around the middle. It's pretty...and I don't have shoes for it yet.
Oak had to take in the sides on the skirt-portion, too. They were too poofy, and I said, "Am I supposed to look...bell-like?" and she clucked and shook her head...and proceeded to adorn me with even more pins to mark the spots where she will be taking the sides in. Heh.
The dress, surprisingly, will have its alterations completed by Wednesday, the 17th -- which is a pleasant surprise. I thought it would take her much longer than that. I am usually one of those girls that needs a lot of work done on her clothes. Cross your fingers that I'll be able to find matching shoes before then, lest Judy be humiliated by a hobo-looking bridesmaid!
