A failed attempt at a fill for 25fluffyfics. Writing fluff for Hook is hard.

Their Best Work

***

The formal inauguration of Crystal City was long and boring, even to Hook and especially to Mixmaster. A number of high-ranking officials from the nearby city-states came to make speeches, Scrapper was called on to speak, and the mech who commissioned Crystal City was a Sigmatist. She demanded some of the Sigmatist ritual forms to celebrate a living creation go into the city's inauguration, which stretched it even longer.

The informal inauguration took place in a bar inside the still-unopened city. Mixmaster tended bar, Bonecrusher kept an eye on the door in case any of the officials thought they could wander into the Constructicons' party, and Scavenger and Hook traded toasts throughout the evening.

"What annoys me-," Hook said after his fifth toast.

"-Is damn near everything," Long Haul drawled, earning sniggers from Scavenger, Mixmaster, and Bonecrusher.

Hook gave them a withering look. "What annoys me," he said again, "is the way everyone talks as if we'll never build anything finer than this place."

Mixmaster cackled. "They said that with the Principal Office! And the Corundum Museum of Fine Arts! And the Scintillating Electro-Didgeridoo Ampitheater!"

Scrapper cycled his visor light up a few notches. "This place is a masterpiece. It will be difficult to do better."

"But not impossible!" Scavenger exclaimed. "We've done masterpieces before, we can do them again!"

"Never on this scale," Long Haul pointed out. "We did buildings before. This is an entire city. We'd have to build a continent to top that."

"Relax!" Bonecrusher laughed. "Give it a few millenia for Crystal City to change hands, and they'll be saying our tear-down is the best demolition work we've ever done!"
